Recovering from sickness
So I'm recovering from a bad cold since last week. The worst of it was during the weekend.
How do you guys get back into the riding? I've gone out twice in the last week for a total of about 35 miles (pathetic) but I felt that I had very little power on those rides. I've also noticed my calves aren't as rock hard as they used to be when I flex them.
Do you guy's just take it slow and [re]build up the miles before sickness? How much training do I lose for being out for a week?

The amount of training lost depends on the person, I believe.
Just don't push yourself... you could end up sick again! Find a starting point and work your way back to your normal training schedule.

Agree with Koffee.
I've gone through this (UGH!) about six times this year. Longest down time was >3wks (I think they have it figured out now).
You just don't push it. Get some base miles in . . . patiently. Let your body dictate the tempo. If you're getting tired, first slow down, then stop. You're going to need more rest than you wish you did . . . but take the rest.
Don't worry too much about what you lost. Worry about getting well and staying well. The worry won't help . . . either your average speed or your calves

Just think you could be a bit worse off. I broke my left leg in three places from knee to ankle this March; full of titanium now and am just one month out of the final cast. Didn't ride, I didn't even walk for three months; still learing how to do it all over again. Your lacking from a cold and week off ridding? Come on man, you kidding right? One whole week? So what. If you were strong to begin with one week shouldn't make that much difference. I'm rode about 80 miles this week instead of a two or three hundred, and just increasing a bit at a time. One week and a cold? Advice? ummm .... try calling your mommie.....

well i'm going on 1 week off right now, i've been trying to kick this illness and i cant seem to kill it fast enough. i'm hopeing to feel good enough to do my after work ride on monday and start off really slow. i definitly feel weak my lack of activity and (feed a cold attitude) has taken a serious toll. at least i've had time to tune up a few bikes and completely rebuild my titus racer X
