Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i think a custom artisan/boutique frame with a groupset would beprettier and much cooler than a 14 lb jigsaw puzzle

I dont believe its a jigsaw, chose the components on weight and performance. If i went all Campy it would be heavier. Ive looked at customs but dont see the value to price in them. Its in the high 4s Larue. Thanks for the input keep it coming

Yeah, hmmm. Not so sure about that choice of tubes. I think you'd better scrap it altogether and start over.

What are you going to use the bike for? Really hard to say if this is a good bike for you without knowing anything about you.

Longer type rides, 50+. Dont want a comfort bike completely, like to go fast to. Might take on some cat5 stuff next year. Im 5'10 190lb guy. My normal ride is a 50 to 80 mile roller 16 to 17 MPH average. Seated climber.

Nice setup. Personally, I'd go with Zeros over X/3s and a Wippermann Connex 1011 over the Campy chain. Also, do you really think you need/want OS handlebars? And have you tried out the shape to be sure you'll like the profile? Things also generally mount easier with traditional 26.0mm bar setups. Or have you considered the FSA Plasma integrated bar/stem? Those have a special bracket that mounts to the underside of the stem and extends out to provide a mount for your computer and/or lights.

Why are you going cheaper on the pedals? I would opt for the x/2 although maybe that is what you meant. You are probably staying away from the x/1 due to the weight limit which I understand.

Personally this setup looks like severe overkill. You could do very well with a hugely toned down version of what you've listed. Most pro's don't even ride sub 15pound bikes. But that being said, its a beautiful choice of parts, and money doesn't seem to be an issue for you on this, so if you wanna spend the $, go for it.

Chicks dig thieves?

I think if you have the money and want to spend it on yourself then go right ahead. If you are just spending the money because you think this setup is what you need then you can really cut back on some components and save some money but still have a really nice bike.

Who makes Custom Carbon? I ve seen Seven does but that is 4k frame and fork. Ive looked at Indy Fab Crown Jewel steely with Carbon fork and rear. Thats custom about 4500 with chorus. Both Indy fab and Seven seem pricey. Parlee is custom carbon but do not know the prices. Again thanks for input. I realize that setup is overkill just have a little spare change for dream bike. Recommendations appreciated.

overkill is right unless u promise to ride over 100 miles a week and race! Nice picks on ur list and its all up to you, but if ur gonna overkill, overkill the wheels. I would chill on the seat post and drop bars at leat. if u did roll out on this bad boy remeber that u will be a moving traget by some of those guys who like to head hunt the "all show and no go."

Ah, the dream bike with parts pick. Dreaming is fun. But then reality comes along and smacks you down. At least that's what happens to me. Have fun with that you lucky dog. Here are my comments:

The chain and casette that you parts picked are for racing. There's nothing wrong with that. However, they are going to wear fast. If you put in a lot of miles then expect to fork out another 270+ dollars after 2-3K miles. That can get rather expensive.

My dream bike would be more along the lines of custom Ti (IF or Moots) with a Chorus kit. I would have 2 wheel sets a tubular climbing wheelset and a clincher aero wheelst.

IMHO.... Such expensive gram shaving is overkill unless one has sub 10% body fat. Also, at your BMI, you might not be able to get in the proper position to enjoy the drops with a racy stem, and still breathe freely.

There are several exceptions but most Ti bikes I've ridden tend to be more flexy than most CF bikes I've ridden. That said, I haven't ever ridden something like a Litespeed Blade which is reported to be very stiff due to the shaping and enormity of the tube cross-sections.

Cool! then go for it, if the geometry is right.

Although, you'll still get a better bang for the buck by down-grading the most bling-bling parts.
