Thundersorms and Biking
A thunderstorm caught me riding Wednesday. I know golfers and fishermen are very likely to get struck by lightning. Do the tires protect us cyclers or do we also attract heavenly electricity?

I once had a guy at a bike shop tell me that the tires insulate you from getting hurt by lightning. The answer.....
NO.
When heavy lightning is present, it is not a smart idea to be riding.

I'd be more worried about the getting struck on the highest point of contact. MY HEAD. That's most likely where it would strike vs the frame. The strike may go through the frame on its way to the ground. Or, it may just exit out your foot, causing your nice shoes to explode. Either way, the 10,000,000+ Volts is not exactly my idea of an enlightened experience.
Happy Riding.
