Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Prospect Park this 4th of July

My GF and I are gathering some people on the 4th for food, frizbee, sun, and possibly a little bike riding (concentrating mostly on relaxation though). thought it might be cool to meet some of the PP regulars. i have no details on when\where we'll end up, but just kind of throwing it out there for now. will post more info as we get our act together...

What time do you plan on doing this...I would like to join you, but I would have to come in from Trenton New Jersey. also my ex girlfriend (and still very dear friend) lives around the corner from Prospect Park.

Every single weekend I see people BBQ'ing. They have designated areas for that, I'm sure we'll have to get there early to grab a spot though.
Baj32161, now would be a good chance to get back together.

We are much better friends then we ever were as a couple. Sometimes it just works out that way.
I would really like to do this ride.

so, we'll be there from about 12 until 5ish. in the great lawn area not too far from grand army plaza. north of 3rd street.

i'll have my bike out there....specialized comp with zebra strips and a red tire on the back. if i'm not doing a few laps i'll be in the great lawn area playing some frisbee.

I may be doing my walk around the park at that time. I'll be the guy with one arm in a brace and the other in a cast. Walking is all I get to do now that both are broken. If I see you I'll stop and introduce myself.

Are bikes allowed on the FDR when they close it and allow people to be there?
I was thinking of either riding out there to view the northern fireworks show or hanging around the shore in brooklyn for the southern one.

When they close the FDR there's no room for bikes, its shoulder to shoulder with people.

Is the Park going to be OK this morning - up til about noon - for casual riders? Hate to get there in the middle of a race. Thanks and have a great day - It's a beaut!

i just got back from the park - doing some laps. it's starting to get pretty packed with people....i would imagine it'll be fine for casual riding, but there will be lots of kids, etc. on the roadway. not a good day if you want to put some speed on.

Heh, just tell us what color you're wearing, we'll look for you. Which lawn is it? Is it the one to the left of us right after we get off the hill?

let's say you get into the park via the grand army plaza entrance. if you follow the park road (in the proper direction) for about 1/4 to 1/2 mile we'll be on the great lawn area to the left of the road. i have a new balance basketball shirt that's solid red on the back and solid blue on the front.

Hahahaha...that must be me and I was looking for you guys. Is not like easy to locate a bunch of people picnicing out of hundreds of folks there. I ended up doing few laps with a bunch of roadies. I did stopped after the hill and looking around. Looking around for bikes.

My gf and I rode around looking for you guys, but we got there at like 3:30pm. So it was PACKED. Anyway we ended up finding a good area to play frisbee for an hour or so then went to dinner and found a place on the promenade to watch the fireworks.
