As style consultant for the OCP, a position I undertake with great respect, I thought it would be appropriate at this time to post an example of a proper OCP kit for a ride. (Heck, I'm off work today and waiting for some clouds to clear before I head out on a ride a little later)
So I laid out some gear on the floor of my new OCP basement cycling room (now complete with a dehumidifier running in the corner) to hopefully answer some questions and give a solid example of what to consider.
First of all, consider the overall look. Notice how this kit simply works together, flowing smoothly like the paint from a artist's brush. This overall look needs to also work with your bike color. This is why I purchased a neutral-color Klein. All the components need to work together for a true OCP ride.
From the bottom up:
--Girodana socks in yellow with a blue logo. The blue is the theme. The yellow gives it that hint of hot sauce that is so yummy.
--The shoes have a classic, almost throwback look to them. Many prefer a more flashy shoe, which is fine. I like the old-school look or my old, comfortable Diadora's.
--Voler bibs in blue. The blue vs. black is a bit daring I know, but that's part of being OCP.
--Gloves are classic Trek, black trimed in grey.
--The helmet is a Giro in blue and white....one of the "Lance" helmets for bonus points. Never clash your kit and your helmet. This is an easy mistake for OCP wannabe's. I see it all too often sadly.
--Bole' glasses, with the perscription insert for me. The yellow tint lenses are preferred. It has that cyclist look.
--Finally, what may be the most important statement you make next to the bike itself, may be the jersey. In this case the color works perfectly. Even better is the fact that it is a team jersey, but not a pro kit jersey, which sometimes can read 'dork' on the road. Not here my friends.
This MaterLock jersey is a jersey of a local team that was given to me. So it's unique...it looks great...and it says to others as I am posing, "Hmmmm, that guy may be somebody..." For added OCP points, it is also a Garneau.
So there you have it. A crash course in some OCP style from Hip.
Now I've got to go change and get out there to pose!

Bottom line is that you have to feel good on it, no matter how cool it looks. Too expensive to just sit there and stare at it.
Although......

Funny story about the Orca. First some back story. I was on a trip to Los Angeles and crashed and broke my Cinelli Startlight frame. So I go to my buddies shop in Glendale and he hooks me up with the Orca. I fly back to Austin thinking man nobodies going to have one of these babies (they had just come out) I roll up to my Sunday morning group ride and low and behold there is another blue Orca sitting right there. The owner and I had good laugh about being the kids on the block with this new toy!
Even though the Orca was a pretty bike I do like the looks of my LOOK just as much!

Yeah or at the very least Castelli or Nalini...but the true essence of OCP is Assos.

agreed. voler, while nice, is way too mid range for a true believer. also it looks like the bibs and jersey match close but not exactly in color.
next.

I should point out a few things....
1) Assos chamois cream IS used in those bibs exclusively.
2) I didn't say this was a 'bling' kit....just a solid basic example. This would be for an average ride, like I am going on today. The bling stuff isn't for beginners...and of COURSE it would be Assos or Castelli. I wouldn't even think of posting the picture of my Castelli mechanics warmup sweater.....I mean that's just not for beginners!

Okay, I ask you to judge the OCPness of this setup. Please disregard the fact that I'm riding and just concentrate on the outfit and the colour-matching. I know the jersey doesn't exactly match the bike but it does match the socks. And my gloves and shoes do pick up the colours of the jersey while transitioning to those of the handlebar tape and bike.

The blue helmet with that riding gear in this case is, I must admit, shockingly disturbing for an OCP'er.
Nice ride!

For an OCP kit I'd think the shoes should be shiney silver, the Sidi Limited Edition Dino Signori Ergo Carbon Mesh for instance. Extra points for the yellow socks matching the sunglass tint!!!

That Aegis jersey rocks. I have seriously been considering one of these. Matter of fact, I think I will pick one of these up at the end of summer when the short sleeve are on sale.

OCP question.
Do I lose points for wearing a CSC jersey since I work for them?

SALE OMG
Ithought OCPing was a money no object thing. And you were only alowed to use the S word when you find something cool in the back of your LBS on their S... Rack.
If you can do this thing on the cheap I probly qualify as OCP, with two full Chorus bikes on which do to the fact that the other is more OCP (mmmm Titanuim) has not be out of the garage in 5 months. I am seriusly considering changing one all carbon fork for another all carbon fork as the new one would be an Easton EC90 SL rather then a Giant TCR1 take off. Where do I fit in this OCP thing anyway.
