Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

new LIGHT race bike

I'd like to get a new bike sometime soon, with the following specs:

1) 15lbs
2) Campagnolo gruppo
3) CHEAP!

I know I won;t get a 15 pound campy equiped bike for cheap, but what bikes can i get for a good deal? (best bang for the buck) I'm hoping not to spend too much, but still get a really nice bike. Also, preferably at least Carbon fork and rear triangle, the rest doesnt matter too much.

Somebody else made a post about waiting to long to pull the trigger on one of those today. Sucks though, looks like a fantastic deal for an Ultegra-10 equipped, rebadged Fuji Team.

Yea, that was me... I can't believe that I waited too long. That would have been way better bike than I deserve, but hey, that's life. This one looks nice https://bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/spt05.htm but isn't the same....

Who spent longer thinking about buying the bike then when he asked his FIRST wife to marry him.

That doesn't have CAMPY, so why did you post it when the OP asked for a light CAMPY EQUIPPED BIKE???

My bid would be for a Calfee Dragonfly, unless you weigh 200# like I do.

Oh wait, for a bargain price? How about the R900 I just got. Veloce (double or triple) grouppo, except for the TruVativ cranks/bb and the Omega brakes. $1600!!!

Because he said in the same breath that he new it wouldn't come cheap and then asked what bikes he could get for a good deal. The post I made qualifies on that basis. "I know I won;t get a 15 pound campy equipped bike for cheap, but what bikes can i get for a good deal?"

Does the bike absolutely have to come with a carbon rear end? If not, the two obvious candidates would be the Lemond Sarthe and the Cannondale R900. They won't be at the 15lb point, but I don't think it'll be easy to find something that matches all three of his criteria.

Build kit looks suspiciously like a Fuji Team SL. If the "ultralight" sealed ISIS BB was an American classic unit that would almost confirm it.

I believe it was confirmed. There was a thread created by a poster who actually bought one.

There was a whole thread on this bike and the conclusion was that this is last years Fuji Team SL. One of the other bikesdirect offerings is actually another '04 Fuji, but I can't remember which one it is offhand. That other thread identified it as well.

Could be that they get just the '04 Fuji frames en-masse and slap on this year's gruppo. Either way, it was a steal when it was in stock.

I thought the Sarthe was heavy. I picked up a 54cm one and it was a LOT heaver than my 57cm Lemond 853 (Zurich). I was pretty surprised, would like to see some comparison/stats of 853/vs/true temper O X

and the Sarthe was outfitted with lighter components (lighter wheels, gruppo, carbon post) than my Zurich.

The frame was last year's Fuji Team SL, the group was this year's Ultegra 10 speed. It's all kind of moot now since they are gone, gone gone.

I still keep saying I want to look up the densities of all these materials. 853 is said to have more tensile strength than Ti, but Ti is less dense so you can use more of it. (a more extreme example is Aluminum which if you went by tensile strength gets blown away by 853)

I think Strong frames has a great discussion of this (5 parts long).

I don't know about TT OX, but my '01 KHS Flite 800 is thin tube Reynolds 853 and it is noticeably light for a steel frame bike. It's a keeper for me.
