Strange Data from my Polar HRM
I have the 720i. Today I used it again for the first time in several months. I have never had trouble with it before -- none of the glitches or occasional scattered data points that others have reported.
Today, though, both my HR and speed readings are messed up. I know for a fact we did about 50 miles between 20 and 30 mph. However, the plot of today's ride shows a distance of 62 miles and velocities of up to 40 mph. Furthermore, I have never recorded an HR of more than about 179, but today I show heart rates in the 180s-90s for extended periods of time.
Any idea what is causing this all of a sudden? I might expect my speed/distance data to be messed up IF the fork transmitter were low on power. But I would not expect the HR to also be skewed.

Reasonable theory, but I didn't mention this is the exact same route I have always ridden with the club. And it's not single data points, but rather consistently high numbers. Unless I have developed some sort of huge gain in cardio performance and am now capable of riding in the 190 and 200 bpm range.

Since you've ruled out the route:
If more than one sensor's data is messed up then your problem is going to be interference or a low battery in the watch.
The only other thing that's ever affected my 710i's data is a flapping jersey on a dry day (the flapping builds up static in the chest belt) but of course that won't affect speed or an MP3 player which scrambles all the signals.
Did you have an MP3 player or cell phone? Those two things interfere with my 710 but only when I hold them in the same hand as the watch.
Alternatively, there's a chance that someone else in the pack had a wireless sensor with a very strong signal that interfered with your Polar. That said I have a Vetta wireless and one of my riding partners has a Polar + Sigma wireless and neither combination is problematic.
Lastly, there's a very, very small chance that someone else near you had a Polar sensor that was broadcasting with the same code as yours.
