Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

C+ Rider grew out of her bike

I have a 04 Giant OCR 2 bike. I bought it in March 05. I love the bike and have put about 600 miles on it. I feel that I have grown out of the bike....it is a comfort bike first of all. I think that I want a lighter frame and better derailleurs....and just want to ride faster and easier. So with that said,

What bike do you think I should look at next ...as a step up....Money is no object. Thanks.

PS I want to support my local bike shop owner, so Trek, Giant or Cannondale suggestions???? Thanks.

Must be nice! Shouldn't be hard to get something good, then.

Insist on getting something that fits you just right... pay for a fitting, if necessary. Since you are a "she", you might see if Trek WSD or Cannondale Feminine frame will fit you better than your current bike.

A lighter frame and better derailleurs will not necesarily make you faster. More training is what makes you faster. A lighter bike will only make you a few seconds faster, and then only on hilly rides.

If your current bike does not fit you well, improving your fit can make you noticably faster. Often, you can improve your fit by moving your seat a little and changing your stem. If that really doesn't work, then you may need a new bike. No way for us to recommend a better fitting bike without seeing you riding your current bike.

Take a look at the TCR 0. I have one and I love it. Be careful though as getting a good fit with limited sizes can be problematic.

There are many adjustments that can be made to a high quality bike. When you buy make sure your LBS can do a fitting. Normally they put the bike on a trainer and make adjustments based on how you will be riding.

Lenard Zinn's bicycle primer book has a very good section on fitting techniques.
This web site is pretty good for recreational riders: https://www.peterwhitecycles.com/fitting.htm

4 months & 600 miles isn't a lot of time to really get to know a bike. I too bought a new bike in March and have about 600 miles on it, and I'm still tweaking the fit and getting to know my "new" bike. But it's your money.

Sounds like a proper fitting would do a world of improvement, not to mention being easier on the pocketbook. Besides, if money is no object, you can afford to pay for a fitting and either be more comfortable on your current ride or at least have the right measurements for a new one.
