I know absolutley nothing about roadie racing, i was reading that in The TOur de France Lance gave up his lead for strategical reasons but others say he didnt. I see the idea of giving up the lead to conserve energy and what not but is it a strategical thing or is Lance having trouble right now?

You Know!? For Kids!
Lance is wearing the yellow jersey and putting time on his rivals. I think you must have read about things that happened a few days ago. Unless he crashes Lance is going to win number 7 in about 12 days.

I think the reason was to not have to defend it, thus putting the pace of the faster, and tirering everyone out.

The first week of the Tour de France is mostly for show. Various sprinters and opportunists try for stage victories or to wear the yellow jersey for a day or 2. The major contenders usually use the first week as a warmup, then make their move when the mountain start in the second week. The contenders try to stick together and not lose time to the other contenders.
Armstrong let Jens Voight wear the yellow jersey for a day because Voight is not an overall contender and chasing him down would have just wasted energy. In fact, Voight was one of the last finishers in the race today and was disqualified for being too far behind the leaders. That's a long fall from first to last in just a couple of days.
