Wow, I just ordered my first real bike!
I spent the last two weeks trying to figure out what kind of biking I like and what sort of bike I want, and today I finally made the big step!
I made my way down to a LBS that's 30 minutes away in this small town, and the two guys (a dad and son team), were incredibly nice. I picked their brains for more than 90 minutes. It almost seemed like they wouldn't have minded if I didn't buy anything.
Anyway, I'm a newbie, so I was trying out the Treks and Specialized entry-level bikes. I got the feeling they favored Trek (their rep was in while I checked it all out , but I ended up going for the the Specialized Allez Triple. For some reason, it felt more comfortable to me than the Trek when I tried them out around town.
Sounds like it should be coming in later this week (I held out for the color I really wanted, haha). I got the bike for retail, but I feel good about it because it is a small shop and the guys were super helpful and I hope to be riding the bike for years.
Thanks for all the help! I think I wore out the "search" function doing research!

i think you are going to like that bike... i have an '03 Allez Sport 27 (same frame as yours AFAIK w/slightly different geometry according to charts)... bought mine used... since there were some scuffed components, i put on 105 front/rear derailleurs and brifters... then added a few matching Specialized accessories (cages, wedge bag, etc.)
it's a nice ride... took me a couple rides to get everything adjusted to my liking... the bike is light enough (about 20lbs or so) and the price was right, so i'm going to ride the heck out of it!
mine came w/original turbo pro tires, but it looks like the new allez has the mondos?
enjoy, and keep us posted!
p.s. let me guess: you went for the silver frame, right?
:-)
