New Trek 2100!
Greetings All!
I was driving around Houston, killing some time while my wife was at a local art gallery, when I ended up at the Bike Barn in Rice Village. Turns out they had some lovely Trek 2100's on sale. I was helped by a very nice sales-person (Melissa). I needed a 58cm frame, which they didn't have in stock there, but she located one for me at their location in Clear Lake. Having nothing better to do, I drove down to Clear Lake and spoke with another very nice sales-person (Bob) and ended up coming home with a gorgeous 2100.
To help offset the cost of my acquisition, I sold my Giant ORC Touring bike today (surprisingly easy sell).
Now, I am no photographer. This will be made abundantly clear by the pictures which follow. This first one is me and my assistant Dutch, the Catalina macaw. I was so amazed by how light this thing is that I thought I was dreaming. So Dutch obligingly bit my ear to remind me that I was not dreaming.
Dutch is very safety conscious, and thought he better inspect the frame.
Now the only bummer this weekend has been the weather. It has rained practically non-stop! Well earlier today I said to heck with it and went out for an hour's ride. Even though the streets were nasty and I had to be really careful, I was maintaining speeds between 20 and 24 mph for most of the time. For me, an out-of-shape old fart, this was remarkable. Dutch didn't believe me, and had to inspect the bikes computer for himself.
This is a much better bike than I am a rider. But I'm hoping to fix that over the next few months...

Great looking bike, great looking parrot! What kind of discounts are they giving? Trying to clear room for the '06s or just trying to reduce a little inventory?

Excellent taste! I'm sure 58VW would agree. The only substantive thing I changed on mine was the saddle, although I did swap bars/stem for the type of position I was seeking.
It looks even cooler once you flip the stem (making it horizontal). Not sure why, but it does.
No comment on Bike Barn -- glad you had a better experience than I did (also in Houston).

Hi Towlie,
This was the first time I had done any business with Bike Barn. My wife and I have Trek 7500 (hybrids). Those and my Giant OCR came from the Bike Source folks. There is a Bike Source in Kingwood and another in the Woodlands.
I did call both of their locations before deciding on making the purchase from Bike Barn, because the Kingwood Bike Source is much closer to me. However neither place had any 2100's in stock.

Congradulations, beautiful bike
Since someone mentioned... Here is my 2100...
(Trek 2100 frameset, Full DA10 drivetrain, race x lite aero wheelset, ultegra shimano SPD-SL pedal system (speedplay X-2's in photo), Victorria tires, Fisik Arione Saddle, Race XXX lite post and cages.)
The only thing I would do is invert the stem. It does not make a huge difference in the heigth but it makes it look a while lot better. Funny that trek puts such a long steertube on the bike.
Reciently trek went to low retail on their bikes and the 2100 dropped a few hundred dollars making it a good deal.

Lovely job you've done with that 2100. I think you upgraded quite a bit since last you posted pics. I remember the aero wheels, but full Dura Ace?

Ah now it's my turn to get myself a new bike.....after getting a Congo Grey first though.
Dang I gotta get my priorities straight.
Good thing I got a new job, so I have a larger budget than before
