Which is the better bike?
I'm in the market for a new, lighter bike than the 20+ lb one i have now. The ones that seem to be the best for my budget (under 1200) are the Scattante CFR with the next 20% off coupon or the Motobecane Le Champion SL that bikesdirect has. The main difference would be that the Scattante has a carbon frame, while the Motobecane has a much better wheelset. I'm leaning towards the Moto, not only because it is in-stock now, but also because it is significantly lighter (almost 2 pounds).

I just joined this forum since I found that it had a lot of talk about the Scattante CFR bike that I have been considering buying recently. I think your weight advantage of the Motobecane is a bit off. The Motobecane is listed at 16.9 lbs on bikesdirect.com and the Scattante CFR with the 20 speed is listed at 17.3 lbs. I've been looking at the triple version which is listed at 17.7 lbs. In any case, vitually any bike I consider is going to be vastly lighter than my 1982 Sekai 500 which I've managed to trim down to 29 lbs.

You can't go wrong either way. Unless you have a carbon fetish, I'll go with the Le Champion SL. If I had enough money, I'll buy both.
If the Le Champion SL is the same as Fuji Team SL, it's made of all aluminum including the seat stays. Ride should be a litle harsher than all carbon Scattante CFR, but still, many people love it. I'll probably pick Motobecane knowing that.
