Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Scattante CFR Backordered?

Just getting into road bikes now after a very long layoff from MTB. I ordered the Scattante CFR triple last 2 weekends ago (20% off sale) and haven't gotten any good response from Supergo as to when the bike might come in. Just wondering if anyone is in the same boat and has heard anything. Summer has just started here in Portland, OR and I'd love to start riding before it's over. Thanks.

Lots of demand for that well priced bike. Paitence is a virtue.

I was just looking to order a CFR double today and noticed the note on their website saying they were out of stock. The drop down is sort of vague... are those dates in the format of month/year or month/day. I was hoping those were just old and someone forgot to update the website with the correct information.

Did Supergo give you any indication on when your order might be available? Was it "out-of-stock" when you purchased a couple weeks ago?

I dont know where you are located, but Performance Cycle in Atlanta had four in stock this past weekend. Even with Supergo price tags. If you are interested, it was the Ashford-Dunwoody location. Not certain, but maybe they will ship.

Later,

When I first talked with them about the dates on the website, they said it was the first date that they were originally ordered. Doesn't make a whole bunch of sense but I guess there are a lot of things out there that don't. It was out of stock when I had ordered it someone I had talked to said it should be coming in soon. But, it's been over 10 days since I've ordered it with no real update and customer service saying they have no idea. I'm just looking around for shoes and pedals now. I thought about getting it from a bricks and mortar store but I did save over $300 with the coupon and to not use it would really put me higher than I wanted to spend,

I heard back from customer service at Supergo and they said the dates on the website drop-downs are month/day. They said they have bikes or frames (not sure which) in customs but they haven't arrived yet.
I asked if the date of 03/04 really means next year (I doubted it) and they dodged the question in the second email reply. They said they are taking orders and expect the bikes which are already in the US customs to arrive "reasonably" soon. I'm not quite ready to order yet but I would if they had them in stock (or at least an expected date with 10-14 days) and would honor the special 20% off coupon from earlier this month.

I won't place and order for "reasonably" soon.

As of today the Supergo website now lists the CFR as "available 10/08". I wonder if my pointing that out to someone there had anything to do with the site update. I guess I'm not getting one before the century ride I was planning on Oct. 8th.

Wow... 10/08 is pretty bad. Interestingly, the CFR triple is still listed @ 3/04. Of course, I have no idea what any of this means except that they seem to have an incredibly poor tracking system from their suppliers. I'm still looking around for an alternative bike but it's still pretty hard to find one that's comparable in price and components/frame.

A buddy of mine has one backordered and ordered it with the 20% coupon... He mailed them regarding the dates quoted on the web site and asked about the month/day or day/month date format but has yet to receive a response...

If you're desperate you can go/call a store. The advantage of going to the store (if you can) is they'll swap out components that you want if you don't like what's on there.

I have the double and love it so far.

At this point, I'd almost settle for a double. I live in a very hilly area and am not pretending to be any superstar on a bike so a triple would be better. But I guess is 10/08 really better than 03/04? Who knows.

I'm betting the 03/04 (March 4th according to date format they told me in an email) was a date from when they ran out earlier this year. I also bet my email questions prompted someone in cust. service to update a bunch of dates mistakenly left on there to the Oct. 8th they show now. It could have been a coincidence to.

Supergo replied back, with a "we do not know when they will be arriving, but when they do we shall fill all orders..." type of response...

So... they still do not have a handle on their supply chain....

I am begining to think the CFR is vaporware....... aside from those lucky owners who received a bike earlier in the year.....LOL.....

I just got the Scattante CFR from Supergo here in Santa Monica last weekend. It's the 62cm frame though, which may be the only size currently available (?) I walked in prepared to spend less than $1k because I'm mainly a mountain biker, but saw that deal and couldn't pass it up. Looked very sweet too!

I would not be surprised if they never fulfill those orders. The stores still have '05's but I doubt if they will receive another shipment from the factory of '05's.

I expect that their manufacturing partners are already producing the '06 models, and the "great" discounts on the current model year was to help sell them out. Other manufacturers already have the '05.5(Giant Comp Limited) or '06's(Canondale/Trek/Litespeed in Sept.) trickling into the stores.

I was thinking the same thing...

....which can only mean... a free upgrade to the 06 model?...

....perhaps not.......

Performance/Supergo/Nashbar are known to "silently" cancel or hold orders when they stop selling a product, often not even informing the customer.

I actually think the 2006 bike will be an even cheaper/better deal than this years. I believe the 05 was a better deal than the 04 Carbon, etc.

Newer models for the most part, offer better components, however with regarding to value, newer models may or may not be a value depending on the time they are purchased... i.e. 05's now in general maybe cheaper, than they were WAY back in September 04....

However, with regards to 2006 pricing for the CFR, considering the impending global carbon shortage, as a result of aerospace related industries buying up prepeg like it was going out of style...carbon bikes may also be going up in price...

ALLEGEDLY...

I'm still waiting to make a move on the Scattante as well. It looks like someone updated their website and now have the CFR Triples listed as "available 08/05". Over the past week I've started to question whether or not I need a full carbon bike. I'm now seriously considering the R-660 over the CFR. Its about $250 cheaper, same components, very similar weight, and has the Easton Aluminum frame with carbon fork and seat stay. They are still listed as "In Stock".

the only good thing about supergo and the scattante cfr is that they have a great return policy. yup , i heard they are basically rubbish and cheap looking and are also packed badly and come scratched and stuff , this is of course from a friend who is a manager at a supergo. not my idea of a bargain. so remember if your unhappy, just return it and buy urself a name brand bike, after all its the quality your buying.

I have a Scattante R660 that I bought directly from a Performance Bike store in Atlanta. Love it. Nothing rubbish or cheap-looking about it.

That's what I like to hear. The R660 isn't as popular as the full carbon frame CFR (on this forum) but since this is my first road bike (12+yr MTB guy) I probably don't need to spend the farm for the extra flash. I just want a decent light bike with good components.

Now my big question is whether to go for a 51cm or 54cm frame. I'm 5'7" and by stopping by the LBS and checking the fit of the Treks size 52cm, I think the 51cm R660 should be just right.

PS: I checked the local Performance around here and no Scattante's.
