Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Maillot Jaune Classic frame? NOT Maillot Jaune

What is this? Lemond is sending me this frame to replace my 1999 Zurich? What is this. Lemond's site does not really have a very good write up compared to other frame write ups.

Did you not read the answer to the same question in the other thread? If you don't want it, I'll be happy to trade you my '98 model - identical to your '99 - for this new one.

hi,

I did. I change the title to solict more responses. I think I will pass on your offer but that is one fine looking bike.

PS. bit nervous about this because Lemond's 1st position was to fix frame. Want to make sure the replacement is new and of equal value to the Zurich frame that broke!

Oooh, lucky you. I think the Maillot Jaune is one of their steel/carbon "spine" bikes. I've heard they're very nice. I would say you've gotten an upgrade.

That's my point. The new Classic MJ is the updated version of the same frame that you had. It's been a Lemond mainstay for years and they built the company on the backbone of it's predecessors.

These days, the Classic steel is not as much in vogue and Lemond has gotten into mixing materials - carbon with Ti and carbon with steel are the 2 combinations that make up their high-end bikes. They are called the "Spine Design" series and are excellent bikes. Lemond also makes some less expensive aluminum frames as well. But their bread and butter for years was the all-steel (853 in the past, OX Platinum now) frame and the new Croix de Fer and the Sarthe the only current ones they offer in the road series.

I don't believe they offer the MJ in a Classic steel version for '05. I know they did in '04.

Either way, it is a fantastic frame - take it - you will be very pleased.

BTW - I've owned 4 Lemonds and love them to death. I'm quite jealous of the fact you will be getting a new one.

Finally, just to clarify....

The '05 Maillot Jaune comes in 2 versions - the all-steel Classic and the Carbon/Steel combination that is part of the Spine Design series. Both are awesome frames.

Ahh, I see. So it's not the "spine" version, but rather this one.

Still, nice.

Stupid me, I forgot the Croix de Fer and the Sarthe - 2 other current very nice all-steel Lemond road frames.

When I cracked my steel Zurich Lemond upgraded me to the spine Maillot Jaune and man I am ever pleased with the everything of the new frame. Wondering if anything happens to this one would they upgrade to the Tete de Course?? That would be sweet
