Finally, i have reached the first of my 2 goals for my first full year of road cycling. The century!
I left my house at 6am yesterday (sunday), and did an out and back route, returning home about 10 minutes before noon. 101.7 miles in just under 5 hours and 40 minutes (saddle time) at an avg speed of 18.0 mph. It was a solo effort. A tiny head wind (i think around 6-7 mph) all the way out, but a nice tailwind to kick me home. Last sunday was my biggest ride at 70 miles at an avg of 18.8 mph, but that was with a buddy who pulled me most of the way.
I worked really hard the last 4 miles, as i wanted to keep my avg at 18.0 or better. It was dippin' and bobbin between 17.9 and 18.0. I was surprised i had enough gas left to power up the rolling hills and sprint as best i could on the flats. The sense of accomplishment was amazing. I now know how all you that posted similiar posts before me, felt.
Now i am 153 miles from reaching my "easy" goal of 1000 miles this year *my 2nd goal* I figured i would hit that before i did the century, but maybe now i set my sights too low.
Anyways, i just thought i would share my excitement. I have mostly just read the forums, and not offered much, but now i finally feel like i am worthy of posting. Much thanks to all of you who have kept me informed and entertained without even knowing it. Hope to see some of you out on the roads.

That's awesome....all alone and at that speed too?!
My congrats on a job well done.
Isn't it funny how that little computer can make you dig a little deeper at the end as you see that tiny little arrow point up or down next to your speed?
That little arrow has provided me a lot of incentive.

just 4 Gu Gels during ride. 1 before ride (plus breakfast - pb & J and oatmeal) 2 stops totalling less than 10 minutes, just to buy drinks and fill bottles. If i stop longer than that, my legs would cramp up.
First stop was at mile 55 and then at mile 85

Congrats, I'm going to be going for my first metric in about a month and a half, started riding again this past May. I still have a fair bit of work to do and doubt I'll be doing it at anything close to 18mph. Currently seriously considering trying to find a cheap find on a triple crank set - don't think my legs are strong enough for any serious distance on a double yet. At least none with any amount of hills.
Keep crankin!

Good job. Now you have to learn the secret centurian handshake and get "100" tattooed on your buttocks.

Congrats on the ride well done
I cannot wait till I hit my first century. My speed will surely be slower probably about 14 - 15 MPH as thats my average now. I am trying to maintain this average and increase my distance. Right now I have done 34 miles max. But Im new to cycling and weigh 260 lbs so moving all this mass is not easy. NO I am not obese . I was into weight lifing most of my life always had a belly though since I hated cardio and ate the wrong foods. Now I eat better barely lift weight and try and bike 75 - 100 miles a week. once my kids go back to school I will be biking more. 4 weeks left till they go back yeahhhhhhh
