I'm all over it! Will be on different wheels though... having mine rebuilt, so I'll be sporting less blingy, but more dependable record/open pros

That looks like a good ride. I just did 10k'/100mi last weekend and it was a pretty good challenge. Too late for me to commit to this year's ride but maybe 2006. Good luck to you guys!

O.K., now the question: Do y'all think I should ride it with a 46X20 freewheel singlespeed, or break out the triple touring bike (Trek 520)?

Though you should probably ride the trek... you'll get mad props if you do it on a singlespeed.

This is going to sound bad, but...
Ok, I am willing to believe that someone's elevation recorder registered 10,000 vf for that ride, but... I was expecting a horrendous-looking profile, and looking at the one in that link is quite a letdown. Maybe it's the anti-techie talking, but I think if you were to smooth out all of the noise in that profile, you're looking at maybe 7000-8000 feet of real gain (roughly counting the overall vert gained on each climb, not every little spike on the gps). Seems that the latter has become standard measure for this kind of thing. Does that bother anybody else, or is it just me? I'd put more faith in topo tracing, or good old tried and true, SUM( top_of_climbs - bottom_of_climbs ).

I'll be in Seattle this week, but i'm not sure that I would finish this walking anyway. I was going to do the Vine Ride in Newberg on the 20th instead. that's my kind of riding......flat.

It's all about these 2 things - doing the ride and bragging about it. How you tell the story to your friends is subject to opinion and scrutiny, but in the end, no one can take away the fact that you did the ride itself.
I'm at 80% certainty for Saturday.

Ah, just sent you a P.M.. looks like you're starting pretty early. We're leaving Portland around 6:00 and slacker Rad still has to register. Anyways, we'll keep an eye out for y'alls.

Today made me REALLY wish I had a triple.... holy crap, I feel awful. At one point I had both hamstrings and a quad cramp up at the same time.... ugh...brutal. Glad I did it though... I guess.

Yes, today was the hardest ride in as long as I can remember. Although it was great to do it and finish, in the end, it wasn't much fun. I guess that's why they call it the "Torture 10K".
I had cramps come and go the last 20 miles and when I got home, after an hour in the car, I was so spent I literally feinted for the first time in my life. My legs were jelly and my head was spinning - I can't remember any alcohol induced "spins" that were that bad. The good news is that I came to and made it into the house to the couch. I left the air conditioning on this morning and after 30 minutes, I was much better. The heat of the day was deceptively hot.
Now, the legs are tired but after pumping fluids all night, I'm in a much better place. I can't seem to get that feeling that there is going to be YET another hill around the corner out of my mind.

Yeah I know.. I can't count how many times I came around a corner hoping it was going to flatten out, only to find the climb still going. That loop from 62 - 78 miles hurt me bad. Then that climb out from the 78 mile rest stop totally destroyed me. After that I had nothing...

I'm interested to hear how Gonesh 9 is fairing this morning. He dropped me several times during the day on a much heavier bike.
