Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

D/309 is an IET unit, and 5 years ago the minimum enlistment time for a 96B was 4 years, so you couldn't have forgotten ALL that much since you should have just ETS'ed last year...

Three out of four of your avatars are cool and since your AF...There is lots of riding in SA, there was a shop pretty close to the base there but not quite sure about riding close to the base due to all the traffic. Get as many hills in as you can before you get to Tinker!!!

ADAF Weather forecaster at Travis AFB.. I have to admit it's pretty easy forecasting around here and this place is great for riding. I've ridden on some of the roads where they held the Tour of California. Napa is pretty nice to ride. It's also nice riding up around Lake Berryessa. This place is great!

Wow. Lots of former and current military folk on this board. Thank you all for your service. I'm graduating from nursing school next May, and I'm thinking of joining the Navy. I'm a little worried that I'll have less opportunity for road cycling (is this selfish or what?). On the other hand, since there are only three main Navy hospitals, maybe I wouldn't be moving around too much.

Ohio Air National Guard, prior active duty AF.

Road cycling around Wright Patterson (Dayton, OH) is pretty nice - plenty of paved trails within a half hour or so. Yellow Springs (just east of Dayton) is particularly nice for cycling, rollerblading, and just hanging out. Don't tell them that you're military though - it's a liberal arts college town.

I was stationed on Lackland for a couple years. I didn't have a car, so my bike was my primary means of on base transportation. The riding on Lackland & Medina is pretty good, as long as you're not out during peak traffic hours (immediately before & after normal duty hours).

I've been in Germany for about ten months and started my bank account draining hobby of biking here. So far, so good...I am loving biking and loving Germany, the motorists are super attentive here and very cooperative with bikers. If there are any others interested in a group ride in the Wiesbaden area, just let me know.

I was in Illesheim from 94-97. I loved it and miss Germany a lot.
