Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Orbea Lobular 100

Tomorrow, I think I'm going to order the Lobular 100 frame. Does anybody have any comments on this frame? Especially in races? I think Lobular 50 is a better fit frame for me with the aluminum chain stay and a little cheaper but I think Lobular 100 in corsa black looks so sweet.

They both look good. I'd take most anything made by Orbea - very decent bikes.

i'd second that, no idea how it rides at all, but if something looks that good, and from a company that i know makes real good quality products. However, i know someone has to be the voice of reason and tell you bike fit is one of the most, if not the most important aspect of purchasing a bike, as i'm sure many other people are about to tell you. Again though, that is a hot bike.

Right, but the deal with Orbea that's very cool is that he can for $100. extra get a custom geometry frame, so fit shouldn't be a problem.

I've checked out the Orbea frames, and the Lobular frames have much nicer paint quality than the Orca and Onix. I was dissapointed in how they "painted" the accents on their carbon frames. They are really stickers that are clear-coated over. Poor quality stickers too, white cut edges and everything. The Lobular frames didn't look like this, but you may want to verify that on your chosen color scheme ahead of time if possible. Maybe if a local shop has the same color in stock.

It was my understanding that at least on the Al and steel frames, no decals are used but instead, only painted logos and highlights. Not sure about their CF frames.

I'd get the Lobular 50 just because of the paint jobs, the ones on the Lobular 100 isn't as nice and who needs a complete rear triangle all in carbon. I have two Orbea's, both aluminum and absolutely in love with them. I agree with the user above saying they don't like the Orca or Onix colors, that's the main reason why I didn't get one of those two, looked cheap compared to all their other frames. Here's some pics of the 50 from the site, why would you not choose it?

Hrm. I've got two mates with Orbeas. They're okay, but nothing to rave over. They're only a midrange brand. Cheap as chips over here as well.

I placed an order on the Lobular 100 today. I chose Orbea b/c of the geometry. It fits me really well. I should get it in few days.

You know what? Most all of the "higher-end" brands/models are in reality "just midrange". You're just paying for the blingy name.

If you can get a top-of-the-line tubeset, ie: Columbus Spirit, Airplane, Starship, etc., that's welded nicely, painted/finished well, and in a geom that works for you, why in hell do you need to pay 50% or 500% more for a Pegoretti, Colnago, Pinarello, Fondriest, etc??

But posing and snob-appeal is fun I guess...

Besides, he will be using it to race. You don't win a race just because everyone can drool over your Colonago, De Rosa King, or Pinarello. For the author, I have been racing with mine, Lobular 50 (is actually 2003 model) for 1 season already. No complaint. It does what is supposed to do. The ride is not harsh at all. The frame is extremely stable at high speed (50 mph) descent.

Exactly.

Speaking of "graffiti" looking paint schemes, some of you should see the Pegoretti designs. Now THOSE are graffiti, and to some extent they're meant to look that way. I think the Lob 100 or 50 looks great.

I can't wait until my Lobular 100 comes in. I got it in Corsa Black. I think the Corsa Black color is one of the best looking frames too.

Yea, if graffiti looked like that people probably would actually encourage people to graffiti everything.
