Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Another Saddle Height Question

I think my saddle on my road bike is too high. My mountainbike on the other hand feels great and I have lots of power. Can I just measure the height from bb to saddle on my mtb and set the roadbike to the same distance. Would that work or would bar position be a factor too.

Well, you could just try it. First, meaure the saddle to BB distance of each bike and compare, just to be sure that things are as you suspect. Mark the current position where the seatpost meets the seatpost collar/clamp before moving anything (tiny dab of permanent marker is great, or a piece of tape) so that you can reset acurately to the original position.

The other option is to try raising the saddle in small increments - 5mm at a time is good. If you have an allen key you can carry, experiment during a ride and see what feels best under real conditions. Again, I can't stress the point about measuring and marking the original positioning in case you want to reset.

Good luck,

Ed
