Nevermind....I just saw his post "Its a 2003"
Geeez, raving over a bike that is about 3 years old.
Ridiculous.
BTW- I love my Cycles Mercier Aquila Al bought from BD in 2004. $625 flat.
My next purchase is either the Immortal CF in Black $1,795 or the
Vincolo CF $1,599 from Price Point.

Is it me, or does that Vincolo frame at Pricepoint look a lot like this one: EBAY listing
Anybody know who is the "Australian" manufacturer the ebay ad refers to?

Ok, deflect if you will.
Now that's a completely different argument soni, but one I cannot disagree with.

Nice bike. Almost bought a Grand Sprint but bought a Century Pro instead (Ultegra triple, slightly different fork). Like the white finish of the Grand Sprint better than my blue fade, but wanted the triple.
Ride is great. Not like a Chromo for Cadillac comfort, but hardly harsh. Stays and fork absorb the rough stuff. Ovaled stays are oriented thin fore-aft and thick laterally to promote compliance. Bike is stiff, responsive, nice. Did 70+ several times in the late summer with no comfort issues. I did put a different saddle on the bike. Mine came with a Velo Titanium (Taiwanese). OK saddle but too soft for my liking. Replaced with my standard: Selle Italia Flite Ti. Finished off a nice ride PERFECTLY.
I bought mine at the LBS, but I think BD used to offer free shipping in the US. Don't know about the Great White North.
Give it a shot. Great bikes. Great deal.

What's your basis for this? It could be true, but I find it doubtful. If the original Motobecane went through bankruptcy, the Bankruptcy Trustee would do everything to realize as much cash as possible from the bankruptcy estate's assets, including selling the intellectual property rights. If it didn't go through bankruptcy, the owners would still want to cash in on the trademark rights.
The Motobecane name goes way back, and would have too much value for someone to simply abandon it. My understanding is a guy in Jacksonville bought the name, and is behind importing what goes for a Motobecane now

Actually the US Patent and Trademark office shows that Motobecane was registered to Spratt Cycle Support, Inc. CORPORATION FLORIDA 3203 Old Barn Court Ponte Vedra Beach FLORIDA 32082 in 1997, and that the previous registration in 73 is expired. However that does not mean that there was not a sale from ATELIERS DE LA MOTOBECANE CORPORATION to Spratt that effectuated the change in registration.
Hey, and Meb, if you're right, about how this went down (and I'm starting to think you are), I'm going to start searching the Patent and Trademark office for all the names I can find off the Classic and Vintage forum, and find out what abandoned trademarks I can revive. Let's see Bottechia, Zeus,...
Got to admit the Spratt Cycle guys had a great idea.

Awesome to hear another rider who enjoys their Moto, I cannot wait to get mine
also, i saved $100 on the last moto i bought from bd by clicking on their ad at roadbikereview, which took me to the same bike but a different url with a price that was $100 less... not sure how often that works, but worth a shot...

"Would someone tell me of a single reputable bike dealer in the USA selling Motobecanes that is not related to BikesDirect, or its affiliates, "Cycle Spectrum", and its E-Bay stores? BikesDirect is promoted an elaborate hoax."
Discovery Cycle, Austin, Texas...
Maybe their not reputable because they sell Mojobecanes, Merciers, Windsors, etc., along with Raleighs and one or two other "brands" that ain't what they used to be but that seem to be what most others are, except a lot less outrageously expensive.
