Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The OTHER Covered Bridges Ride

I'm glad that you all had a good time at the Lancaster Covered Bridges Ride, but let me invite you to the other covered bridge ride in the SE PA region, the Central Bucks Bike Club's Covered Bridge Ride, on October 16.

I do many rides put on by other clubs in the SE PA/NJ/DE area, and I can honestly say that CBBC (to which I belong) puts on as fine a ride as anyone around--good support, good food (at the stops and at a post-ride feat), scenic back roads (often tree-shaded), light traffic, rolling to hilly terrain (except the flat short routes, which are on a bike path along the Delaware River). We get riders (2,800 last year) from as far as Connecticut and Virginia.

Here's your invitation: https://www.cbbikeclub.org/?body=cove...5e002b0c71f5e9

I'm an idiot. I'm so tired I was still looking at August.

That's the weekend before my wedding. We'll see how the schedule pans out.

Count me in. That ride is in my backyard. I ride it about twice a month. You can expect about 2000 of your closest friends to show up.

This is one of the best rides in Eastern Pa.

I did this ride last year - even with poor weather it was great. It's a bit hillier than the Lancaster ride, but nothing truly grueling. The rest stops were well provisioned, too.

okay! okay! quit twisting my arm! I'll go I'll go!

The ride profile looks like less total climbing, but rollier than the Lancaster ride...

Conflict. Same weekend as the 50 State ride in DC and Tour du Port in Baltimore.

Sounds like a nice ride. I always liked Bucks County.

Excellent. I look forward to meeting you and the rest of the Bike Forum gang.

It is a beautiful ride through the back country roads of Bucks County. Last year it was a little chilly, so I recommend arm and leg warmers and/or tights. They also have long sleeve t-shirts available with the names of all the covered bridges on the ride. A nice souvenir.

Dante.

P.S. If anyone has any questions about the ride I'd be happy to try and answer them for you.

This looks like a ride I can make since I live right across the river in Trenton NJ. I may have to get a ride over the bridge though if I can't get a car. I have been reading about this ride for months and was planning on taking the day off to do it, if my job lets me.

Grasschopper you're mean!

October would be a great time for a ride like this...I may have to put this one on my calendar, if only for the chance to ride with Kloden again!

Cydewaze, just move the wedding up and week and you and Jess can do this for your honeymoon!

No, I live in Pa. I grew up in Levittown, just over the river.

I like to ride in Jersey. When I get sick of the hills, I go to the Pine Barrens and ride the flats.

I've done this ride just about every year for the last four or five years and it's my favorite, so of course I'll be there. Even if it were to be raining I would still drive there just to get the great long sleeve t-shirt with the painting of the covered bridge. If we're really lucky the foliage will be close to peak and your biggest concern will be keeping your eyes on the road.
The only problem is that it's becoming too popular. For the last two years I've brought my own food for after the ride because the lines are pretty long at the food tables. Oh well, I guess you can't have everything.

Ah, man! I'd love to do it but I need to take the month off before my marathon. That, and it's really far and I don't think I can make that trip again for a while. Unless someone wants to pick me up

Hey. My brother owes me (I didn't kill him when we were younger). He lives in Providence. Maybe I can get him to play limo driver... are you good at changing diapers? 'cause i'm pretty sure his wife won't let him go unless he takes one or more of the bambinos ...
