Budget bike?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Budget bike?

I am looking for a racing bike that i will use on a 30 mile round trip each day to commute. Would a low end racing bike be suitable for this or will i need something a bit more pricey to withstand heavy use?

If you'll just be commuting on it (i.e. not racing), then a low-end road bike will suit you just fine (with Shimano Sora/Tiagra, or the Campy equivalent). Go to the LBS and tell them you're looking for entry-level road bikes and see which one fits you best. If you're looking to actually race, you might want to consider bikes with Tiagra/105 (or the campy equivalent).

I asked similar question last week. I have decided with forum help to purchase the cheapest new bike (bikesdirect Motobecane Mirage for $325 delivered, no tax). I haven't received it yet so I cannot comment on the bike itself. I just figured it out, that if I get a brand new bike, I will save money for tuneup, parts replacement, etc. Before that I have purchased an old bike but the amount of money I had to put in it to get it into shape would be close (if not more) to 50% of the new bike price.

Remember, that you need a reliable bike if you are going to use it for commuting.

Just my 2c.

Are you carrying stuff or do you plan to do more with it? Are you going to commute in the rain? If so, consider a bike which can be fitted with fenders and panniers as well.
