Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Changing rear wheel between Campy and Shimano

How easy is it to change a rear wheel between Campy and Shimano?

I guess it's just a case of switching the freehub body (if that's what it's called), how easy is this to do? And are all hubs compatible with both? So that you could have one rear wheel and Campy and Shimano freehubs and use it for both.

Some hubs have switchable bodies. It wouldn't be worth the hassle.

Also consider the cassettes by certain manufacturers (not sure of who off hand) that are Campy cassettes that will fit on a Shimano freehub body. Another consideration for mixing Campy and Shimano is the Shiftmate from www.jtekengineering.com.

Maybe for some it wouldn't be. And it's not improbable that you would have to readjust the RD with every switch...sydney has better things to do. Like in: 'so much carpet....so little time'.

Some hubs don't have removable/replacable freehub bodies, and like sydney said, why go through all that trouble when there are other, easier fixes--or if you can avoid the situation altogether. I guess this would only apply if you are talking about switching it back and forth from one to the other. If you want to make a Shimano 550 wheel Campy compatible though, you'd only have to switch the freehub body once (assuming there is a campy compatible one made and you don't mind commiting such a sin ).
