So I rode sick..best ride of the season... totally bizarre
So I got some kind of nasty cold this weekend, woke up saturday morning with my throat killing me, spent saturday taking Tylenol since I had a slight fever. Woke up sunday feeling even worse and figured, hey, since I am sick anyway, why not try riding the virus out. Had not eaten dinner the night before and didn't eat breakfast before going riding.
Decided to ride for 1/2 hour, however, felt so great on the bike ended up riding 40+ miles, my longest distance this year. Also, my avg speed was about 16.5 MPH, which is really fast for me and despite the fact that for quite a bit of the ride (maybe 8 miles) I joined 2 other cyclists and we chatted going about 12-14MPH. I have done this route before but never come close to this average speed even when pushing hard.
Still sick, hopped up on Dayquil (great stuff) at work but had to take yesterday off.
So, now I am totally confused.
I had the best ride of my season while really sick. Hills that I hate just seemed to slip beneath my wheels effortlessly, I wasn't pushing but just found my rythm. I did a couple of hill sprints that felt easy. I was flagging towards the end (I had 2 bottles of Accelerade that I finished) but was fine after stopping and buying Gatorade. Felt really comfortable on the bike. When I got home and weighed myself just for kicks I was 166 pounds! (2 days before I got sick I was 172.5 pounds, what gives!)
So, the only things I can think off that I did different were
1. I was sick (Duh!)
2. I didn't eat dinner and didn't eat breakfast.
3. Lost a few pounds due to the fact that I was sick.
4. Since I had to go easy, I didn't fall into my regular push, blow-up, limp, recover, push mode of riding.
Anyone ever had a similar experience? Can't wait to get better and do the same route this weekend and compare.

I always workout when I'm sick. I'm usually tired when I start and feel a lot better when I done. I don't know why either.

I vote for #4. Try that method again when you're not sick, and see how you do.

Last Sat. I woke up for the Hotter N' Hell and felt nauseous. Almost decided to just drive back to OKC and forget about it. Went ahead and got in line at the start. And rode my fastest metric ever. Similar thing has happened a couple of times before. Something about feeling like %$#@ can make you ride better.

I recently had the best/longest ride ever...the night before i passed out in a closet and woke up with one hell of a headache.
Odd how it works i guess.

Sometimes illness causes me to be more focused. When I played basketball, I always had my best games the days I was sick.

Michael Jordan always smoked the competition when he had a cold (OK not always but he had some memorable games while sick).
