Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Carbon Ergo shifter durability

I am considering getting a new group for my bike over the next couple of months. I want to give Campy a shot. The question is about the ERGO lever durability. Specifically, how are are carbon Chorus/Record shifters holding up? I have been on a bike outfitted with Chorus... and while the shifters did feel a little "plastic like" at first, that didn't really both me. I'm more concerned if my bike falls over, due to me being stupid , or just normal bumping it into things... that the levers might break or something. I know the Centaur shifters still use alloy for the levers.... does anyone think they might aftually prove to be more durable than the higher end stuff? Centaur doesn't look as sexy as the carbon... but still looks pretty damn sweet I know the Centaur shifters are a little cheaper too... but not enough for that to really factor into my choice. Thanks all!

I've crashed a few times and my Record Ergo levers have held up for about 4 years now. No real high-speed crashes or anything. The levers are a bit scuffed. One of my crashes may have weakened the front upshift lever, as it broke during a ride about a year and a half later. I was able to buy a replacement part and repair the lever.
