Tektro brake pads producing a lot of dust?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tektro brake pads producing a lot of dust?

Still breaking in my new bike and I'm noticing that my rims are staying covered with black brake dust. The black specs are even showing up on my forks and frame pretty badly.

This is on with tektro brakes. I am riding a lot of hills, and they are stopping just fine but I have to clean the rims and frame after every ride.

The pads seem a bit wide as well. Contacting a little below the machined braking surface on the rim. I can't move them up or they may contact the tire.

Anyone have better pad recommendations?
Thanks!

Here's a pic when the bike was brand new. Lots of black "gunk" on the rim now.

mine do the same - I'm switching them out with shimano's or cool stops. I have to use a heavy duty orange based degreaser to clean the stuff off - its nasty.

I have the same problem too with the dust. There is also another problem I have with the Tektro pads. See the copy of a previous post I had.

There is also quite a bit of black brake pad dust over the frame and wheels. I checked the pads for foriegn debris but the look clean. This started happing after about the 3rd ride. This sounds like the problem Shimano used to have with their brake pads. Check out this link:

I have the same problem. The dust comes off pretty easily, though...which I guess is the problem. I'm thinking about switching them.

A question: what makes Kool-Stops so much better? Most people on this forum recommend them, with no reasons why.

Thanks guys, glad to hear I'm not the only one. Thanks for the link Rman! Very informative.
Getting ready to place an order to Nashbar, but they don't have any road pads other than house brand or shimano. Only Kook Stops they have are for linear brakes.

I wonder how good the Nashbar pads are?

Go with Shimano Ultegra or higher if you have to order from Nashbar, my guess is that the Nashbar pads would be near identical to the Tektro.
