Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

20 mph!

I went riding with my 10 year old daughter over the weekend. Awhile back I bought her an older Schwinn road style bike with 24" wheels. She's just now starting to be comfortable on it and wanted to see how fast she could go. We were on a deserted stretch of bike trail so off we went. I clocked her at 20 mph! Not bad for a 10 year old. I don't know who was prouder, her or me!

Isn't it great. I ride with my 9 year old daughter and 12 yeear old son. It's very slow for me, but when my son zooms down a hill at 25mph and my daughter at 18mph the joy on their faces makes it a beautiful day!

That's awesome. I'm sure there's not a prouder dad on BF today.

I have a whole different set of goals. I'm trying to get my 18- and 16-year old sons to drive closer to 20mph.

hahaha, they will learn, trust me, this is coming from a seventeen year old that had his driving career flash before his eyes. 19mph over the speed limit, but no ticket. that ended my race car days.
but back on topic, congrats on your daughters achievement. just becareful, soon shes going to be dropping you

Sweet! Now you just got to teach her how to draft. Mine was getting a little frightened last night around 25.

Id be scared. Thats dangerous speeds for someone so tiny.

Funniest thing is that I used to drive pretty fast in my car(usually 10-15 above speed limit except residential areas) and now Im doing 5 miles below the speed limit

30-40 mph seems fast to me now

Awesome 20 mph for a 10 year old is like us old folks doing 30+ on flats.

I got tired of my 9 yr old daughter continually asking me how fast she was going. I took her to China-Mart where she bought a cyclocomputer with her own money. It's made by Schwinn and it only cost $10. It gives her almost everything my Cateye does except cadence.

Yeah, I plan to get my daughter one too. She seems interested in riding more now that the weather has cooled slightly. She even asked if we could do an organized ride that's coming up!!
