Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'll be doing 750 in nine days later this month, but my record is currently 71 miles on a 30 lb modified MTB.

Not to hijack the thread, but OC, I have to know, how was 211 miles? At what point(s) did you get tired/second winds? What kind of fuel did you bring? I need advice for this sort of thing - endurance junkie

I did 204 miles once while training/vacationing in Colorado.. Riding back up to Colorado's National Monument park to our campground by moonlight was pretty cool!

130 miles...

I'm prepping to do the BMB (Boston-Montreal-Boston) next August and then the PBP (Paris-Brest-Paris) in August of 2007; each ride is 750 miles with a 90 hour time limit. Good stuff.

~140 miles from LA to La Jolla (UC San Diego).

Hope to do STP next year.

102 clicks.

But I hasten to add that it was over a mountain, on logging road and "vehicle track."

211 miles was great and I can't wait for all of the doubles to start next year. I think the hardest parts were miles 110-120 and maybe the last couple of miles. Lunch was at mile 120 and I got a nice "second wind" after a 30 minute break and food (however shortly after my second wind I got nast stomach cramps, mostly likely from a roast beef sandwich. Stay away from too much protein during ride time). For fuel I brought about 8 baggies of pre-measured Powerbar Endurance drink mix, 2 flasks fo Carb Boom gel, a couple of Cliff Bars, some Fig Newtons and all of the sag stop goodies (fruit, PB&J, cookies, cup o' soup etc.) My guess is on your 750 miles that day 2 and 3 may be a grind and then your body will start to except the fact that you're going to keep doing this for 9 days. I think I'd be most concerned about saddle sores. Bring a couple of tubes of Chamois Buttr' or something similar. Wear clean shorts each day and clean yourself as soon as your off the bike each day. If you do get sores, I find that Neosporin helps them heal up. Stay hydrated and have a good ride, make sure to report back to us.

Thanks! I will add the gels and chamois butt'r to my list - I've been lucky with the saddle sores. Commute 180-200 miles/week with no ill effects.

120 miles by mistake, back when my old bike was new. We took a wrong turn and added 50 miles to our route that day.

~140m. 1/3 on gravel. Lost on a POS. Man that was a long day. Still enjoyed myself, though.

Reading through this thread my 128 miles-in-a-day longest-ever-ride is seeming pretty short!

210 Miles. The first day of the Land Rush about 10 years ago. Between 190 and 200 the next since I took the SAG wagon for a short bit through a really boring and congesteded section on day 2.
