Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cateye double wireless remote buttons

For anyone that has or had the cateye double wireless (either version), has anyone tried the remote buttons? I thought that they looked cool and the instructions indicated that they should be able to go in the brake hoods in place of the flightdeck buttons. I ordered them through my LBS but they were not able to install them without it looking like some kind of monstrosity. I bought them anyway (the LBS said I didn't have to) and figured I will experiment for a while. Is there some trick to installing them properly? I have Tiagra shifters on a Specialized Allez Sport if that makes any difference.

Thanks,
Steve

Well I played with it myself and was able to get the buttons in there and working; I just had to completely disregard the instructions...

I took the plastic thing out that's directly under the rubber bump on the hood and put cateye's button there in its place without the little plastic piece that's supposed to go over it, as it doesn't allow the button to get into the correct position and makes it stick out too far. I still have to get the wires under the handlebar tape; that's the part I wanted the LBS to do.

Without that second paragraph you could fill in the blanks after reading the first...

Took the wheel reflectors off a while ago; was considering the front reflector too.
