Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

NW cyclists: Harvest Century

If you miss Livestrong Ride or Peach century at the end of the season, and if the weather holds, you can still ride the wine country on Sunday, October 16th.

I've been looking for one last target event for the season - this could be it. Half the 102 mile route covers roads I ride every week.

I think we need to rally the troops - who else is in?

well I planned to do Livestrong Ride and Peach century since I haven't ridden the roads around Salem in a long time. I will play the harvest century by ear. If a group gets together i may tag along! Anyone else doing peach?

In for livestrong. 50% on peach, and 50% on harvest.... Probably won't do both.

I'll be there rain or shine, though I think I may opt for the 75 miler (or whatever it is). Probably will ride the rain bike either way, just cause... I've only ridden it once so far..

I'll be there, I am also doing the 75 mile loop. I rode this last year and really liked the course, the only section I didn't like was between Wilsonville and Sherwood, and it wasn't too bad, just heavy traffic. Meet up time and place?

Jakey - forecast still looks great. Sunny and a high of 65. Perfect biking weather ??? Oh my god we can only hope...

Hey it's Oregon, forecasters show 25% chance of rain every day after Oct 1 to keep their job. In my opinion they still do a fair to terrible job most of the time... Did anyone ride cycle oregon 2003 ? My point exactly. Matt Zaffino hasn't been back since.

I was looking at saturday...lol.... I hope the forcast stays the same... I would love to not have to wear a rain jacket.. Probably going to have to go with full length gloves to start though..

I hate dressing for cool mornings, cause I always overdo it, but I hate being cold. I'm thinking maybe an Under armor base, short sleeve jersey, arm and knee warmers and windstopper vest. With a high of ~65 and no serious climbing...I doubt I'll get too hot... hmm.....give me hot or give me freezing. I hate this middle of the road stuff.

OK people. No rain... awesome. Registration opens at 7:45, so I will be there decked out in blue jacket/blue helmet with a silver trek.

I'll tape a bike forum label on my helmet, i know it sounds gay, but you'll know for sure it's me, Tom. I'll wait till 8:15 or so, then will get goin. PM me if you want my cell number and want to hook up. Planning the century, but can bail on the 70 anytime.

Hey they are doing a poker run ride with prizes, which I haven't seen since my days in Michigan, and there is a ferry crossing... also bien cool.

Should be a good time !

I should be there around 7:45, wearing a Torture 10k jersey (just came today...yahoo!) and a silver Campy wind vest. Planning on leaving around 8-8:15, doing the 75 at a reasonable pace as I haven't really ridden at all in two weeks.

Awesome day for a ride... The rest stops were so-so, but the lunch was good. I didn't have much in me today though... Too much time off the bike eating fast food lately...ugh... I felt Slllllooooowwwww. Got another 75 mile ride next weekend (Salem to Silver Creek Falls st park to silverton for lunch and back to salem) so hopefully I can do better next week.

Picked up three of a kind in poker cards.

Also...was it just me, or was there ALOT of roadkill? And the couple miles back into champoeg were quite putrid.... I think it was that dairy..yeck.
