Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rode in the valley.

I couldn't resist so I rode today anyways, I didn't see any ash or anything like that.

I only did 15 miles because it was getting dark. The Lemond is awesome. I definately saw a HUGE improvement in my speed over my Univega. I went from 15.6mph avg to around 17.8(same routes and same distance with about similar amount of stops).

On the flats, this thing owns. I can even tackle hills without breaking my knees. I really love the shifting, so much easier.

I tried a flat road sprint but I couldn't break 30mph due to the HUGE headwind. I will try again tommorow. I think I can do it!

Bike is awesome, ride was so-so.

Anyone else ride today?

Glad your enjoying the bike man! I rode my chair around my office for about 15 hours and still have 3 or so left. After today though I can start riding again. Congrats on the find!

I did my favorite loop today. Out Devonshire from Reseda all the way to Topanga. Up to Santa Susanna and over into Simi all the way to Madera. Turn around and head back over the pass and down into Box Canyon. Head south Valley Circle to Roscoe and across to Lindley. Then back north to home.

Wait, I live in Oregon. Never mind.

Glad you like the bike - good choice.

I used to do a variation of this all the time as I spent 35 years in the valley. Don't miss it though.

I live in Agoura Hills We were evacuated from our home at 1:30 am Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Finally slept in my own bed last night with no fires around!

We loaded our car with the usual stuff; insurance forms, pix, clothing and, oh yeah, had my bike on the rack 'cause I wasn't gonna leave it behind! We were able to return for a while and then I grabbed my wife's bike as well.

Air this Saturday morning looks much better than yesterday. I'm going out for a ride in a while.

Great ride! I do it backwards direction. Agoura Hills to West Simi, across Royal to SS Pass and over. I skip Box though cause the pavement is horrible. That whole area was under flame the other night. From Topanga, I ride down and around to Valley Circle and the Calabasas Pass and finally back. Fifty miles.

I missed my ride, so what the heck, I decided to drive out to Palos Verdes. Did the PV loop ... boy, it was really fogged in at the bend. But it was a great ride.
