Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Finally I got rid of my bad habit, I am officially kickstandless

So, yeah, I had the bad habit of having a kickstand on my bike. It was so goddamn convienent.

But today I finally removed it. And that's good too cuz the kickstand is heavy, bulky, and doesn't look good on my bike at all.

So to make sure I never have to use it again. I'll give it away to anyone who lives around Malden or wants to come here. It's silver, sprayed painted black, it's pretty big, it clamps onto your frame, it may scratch it a little tiny tiny bit, so pm me if you want to come get it. I doubt I'll get a pm, lol.

Well, I'm officially kickstandless, yay!

I use to have one that you slipped on to your bb behind the cranks. Was made out of thing aluminum bars and it folded up to fit in a pak or on your rack. I lost it off my rack some where long ago. Wouldnt mind haveing antoher one for when i have to park my bike some where where they have no rack or heck even where they have them. Just never liked the idea of holding my bike up by the front wheel. And when a stand like the one i had only weighed like oh 2 oz its not goign to add any weight that youll notice. But yeh kick stands on road bikes or mtb or any bike for that matter = no nos. Not only are they ugly but they are dangerous if you wreck. and they could pop down at the wrong time and cause a wreck.

I guess I don't really understand your post. My reference was to an earlier D train post about 'wimpy gearing' Turns out he got a triple in a flat part of the world and didn't understand why he didn't need the gears. Live and learn.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying about a 54/42 x 12/21..

Was a bit of joke mate, but dont be to hard on triples though.

i live in a flat area too, and have a 52t42t36, was fitted as standard to the bike, with a 12-21 rear casste your biggest gearing is very close to the biggest geraing on a 53t ring. personal iv never needed to use the 36t ring.

i climb 9-10 hills in the 52t outter ring, theres only too i cant. for those i climb on a 42t chain ring, thats bigger gearing than you would be in you 39t ring.

personal i want try a 54t-42t chainset to replace my tripple. i wont be thinking of eveer fitting a 53t-39t chainset on mine.

Dont get hooked on tripples are the fastest, and best cause they arnt for every-one, or every coarse, there even stating to appear on the pro-tour more too, tripples are great for flatter courses, as most of my riding friends have found when they cant keep up on the hills cause they need to change to a 39t chain ring, and im still in a 52t or 42t chainring.

Have you removed the streamers and dork disks yet? Just don't do away with the playing cards and clothespins....

Or the wicker basket.

I have a Kickstand made out of Titanium. It's held on with alloy nuts. It's very light, and when folded acts as an airfoil that helps the bike hug the ground via reversed aerodynamics/osmosis. I think they refer to it as ground effects in Formula 1. I forgot who made it, but I remember buying it at a store called Korvettes a long long time ago.

Just amazes me that anyone gives a flying f__k if someone has a kickstand or not. When trying to prop up my loaded bike, I sometimes think folks with kickstands are a bunch smarter than all of us. Considering the fruity outfits some of ya'll wear, I wouldn't be throwing rocks.

Loaded touring is a little different creature than a training ride chip. I might think about one as well for what you're talking about, but for most rec. riding, it's not necessary. But you're right, I don't really care one way or the other what anyone has on your bike or what they wear.

Hey the "fruity" outfits are comfortable, do you have a problem with your body image/masculinity .....ummm...

As for getting ride of an aftermarket kick stand I say good for you. I have never found them to attach very well and don't always work that great any ways.
