Hi again all.
On suggestion of another board member I have re-titled my road-bike-help-me-choose thread.
Old Thread = https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...74#post1637374
I am new to road cycling but have been road cycling for about 3mths on a old rusty piece of s**t (been mtn biking for many years), so its time to upgrade. I am tossing up between two bikes at the moment:
Felt F70 - https://www.feltracing.com/2005_bikes/2005_f70.html = $1599AUD
Gitane Mach 1800 - https://www.gitane.com.au/2005mach1800.html = $1590AUD
Both from different LBS.
Could I please get all your reasoned opinions on the best bet of these two. I know Felt is quite popular on this website but some reasoned responses would be appreciated.
Thanks

Aluminium Crusader :-)
it's really a toss-up, but at least the Gitane has some sort of a "name" frame and fork: Kinesis.
I wouldn't worry about the Tektro brakes.
Why did you end up with these 2 bikes? It would probably make no difference, and it may just confuse the issue for you, but there are a few other companies producing almost identical bikes which I expect would be priced similarly:

https://www.cytekbicycles.com/frames.htm

Go with the Felt! I am about to start road cycling and in the same position as you. I was trying to decide between a Felt F60/65 and a Gitane 2200. I chose the Felt because it's better known...? and from what I read about them, they make great bikes...I've ordered the 2006 Felt F65, due to arrive any time soon!? LBS said it should be around AU$2200-AU$2300.
I would suggest looking around at different bikes shops around you or online shops (Australian shops preferably, e.g. www.deanwoods.com.au) and seeing if you can find any 2005 Felt models. BTW, have you checked out Gran Prix Bicycles (www.granprixbicycles.com.au)??? That's in Melbourne, and from what I've seen on their website, they're offering very very competitive prices.
The Gitane 2200 (2004 model???) is on special at The Bicycle Store for AU$2,199 at the moment... (https://www.bicyclestore.com.au/Gitan...-pr-20145.html)
Hope that helped abit....not exactly about the same bikes...but a model above...
Good luck!
