What your best ride?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What your best ride?

The best ride I have ever been on way on the blue ridge parkway some where between Asheville and Boone in North Carolina, I'm not exactly sure where. It was during fall when the leaves were changing and I could see for miles. It was a perfect ride, the hills weren't to gruesome and on the way down I just flew, I peaked at 61 mph. I would have taken some pictures but my camera's batteries died.

It you have any photos show em. I love seeing picture of people's rides.

My wife and I like to ride across Lake Darling at least once per week. The lake is about 20 miles of glass smooth pavement west of our home (about 30 miles north of Minot, ND). We usually see/wave at 3 or 4 cars and 2 or 3 pickup trucks during the rides.

I agree and am lucky enough to have the BRP in my backyard while at school. The areas around Boone offer some of the best rides in the country.

I have done 1014 rides since the beginning of year 2000 plus probably somewhere in the neighborhood of another 900 in the 9 years before that.

It is very hard to pick the BEST one. Some were BEST for one reason, some BEST for another reason. Most I don't remember.

However, here is my photo album with photos of many of my rides, especially in the last few years:

And my website, with even more photos and stories of my rides:

I am SO jealous of you right now. I moved to Dallas. Weather here SUCKS. It's completely bipolar. It was in the 90s a couple days ago. Now its 65. What is going on here?! Oh right, no large body of water like where I used to live (Hong Kong, Key West, Key Largo, New Haven). I've been spoiled by good weather. Never appreciated it until it's gone. New Haven weather wasn't the best but at least I got some good snow and it was always gradual.

Today's 65 degree weather reminded me of the frosty days of New Haven.

Best ride so far has to be the Hotter'N Hell 100 this year. The slight tail wind was incredible. Otherwise, it would have to be one of those mornings when I first started riding last year when it was cold and no one was at the lake.

Ive been riding for so long and in so many different places that they all sort of blend together any more. So I suppose the best ride will be my next ride and then the one after that..........
Lately though in September the weather was just incredible here and I had some pretty outstanding rides on teh Blue Ridge Parkway.

2005 Le Etape De Tour. (stage 16 of this year's TDF) Not many americans know about Etape. It's a blast, and the closest I'll ever come to riding in the TDF.
