Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

used miyata sport 10

I want to buy a used road bike to see if I like it. I'm going to look at this miyata sport 10 model today. I have been unable to find out value for this model (seller doesn't know the year). Anyone know what this bike is worth? The seller is asking $150 OBO.

What year is it? I have an '82 610 and it's a great bike. But in today's market I can't imagine it would be worth more than $30. Except to me.

Maybe $100 if it's in good shape. Miyatas are solid runners, as long as the mechanicals are in decent shape. If anything is worn or looks iffy, you could always make a fixed-gear out of it. I did.

Ask over in CLassic and Vintage. There's a guy over there that knows Miyata inside and out, and if you have the model number and paint scheeme he can probably nail down the year for you.

I'm a huge Miyata fan, but unless it is a top of the line model, it's not worth
$150 unless it is spic and span. And even then, only in a hot market like SF or NYC.

Thanks, I have posted in Classic & Vintage. No response yet from the Miyata Master, whose posts I have seen and enjoyed. I'm starting to develop a thing for Miyatas, and have heard that they are solid runners. Seller doesn't know the year. It's a sport 10, metallic blue with silver lettering, white tape. Bike looks clean, stuff doesn't look worn, tires in good shape (well, what can be seen on a jpeg). I'm not sure making it into a fixie is my plan, but who knows? I've heard Miyatas make good fixies. I'm thinking of offering 100 for it if it's a good fit.

That expert would be Tmar?

I believe there should be another digit in front of the '10'....in any case if it says 'sport' it is likely to be a lower priced model. Not that that is bad, but they generally had lower range components and more steel than alloy from what I have seen.

I had a 1981 110 sports model Miyata which I was lucky to trick out with some campy racing parts (got 'em free) and while it was no speed demon or flyweight it was a very nice pleasant riding frame.
