Competitive Cyclist - gallery of fools
They take a picture of every bike they ship and post it in a gallery on the website.
https://www.competitivecyclist.com/za...=PHOTO_GALLERY
There's some really stunning rich fat old fart's bikes there, but these two are my favourite.
The E1 is the stiffer, less comfortable, racier version of the C50! It's got Campag's special climber's wheelset! (Hyperon). From CC's description of the frame -
Tee hee - I'm sure he rides for less than 2 hours, but I'm not sure about the chainring...
It's a 'team replica', but do you reckon Floyd goes for that gearing?
I'm sure someone will chip in with the boring old line 'people are free to do what they want with their own money'. My answer?
Shut up.
This gallery does beg the question - is 'Competitive Cylist' really the best name for this business?

Our conclusion? If the bulk of your rides are 2 hours or less, and if you spend loads of your time on those rides in the big chainring, the E1 is the perfect Colnago for you.

What we need are some pics of the owners.....
Nothing like a shot of a fat old bald guy in Lycra.... double-stitched seams on his team kit barely containing his beer-gut girth..... some flatlander...who needs a friggin triple to get over a 2% grade...
tiple chainring + 28 tooth rear cog on a friggin sub-16lb racing bike...kill me now...

not to be a stickler or anything but Floyd and the rest of Phonak were on compact cranks for a few of the mountain stages. Not a tripple but still.

I think it is great that fat bald guys are out riding their bikes instead of drinking beer and watching NASCAR on TV. If an expensive bike makes cycling more fun for them, that is fine with me.
Here's a CRAZY IDEA. If they are so into cycling, why don't they spend that $8000 on sponsoring a local young amateur? He could be the next Lance. Isn't that a better, more positive contribution to cycling than rolling around the suburbs on a carbon fibre toy?

There is always the outside chance that the owners are elderly and/or live in a mountainous region and thus need a triple. The frames look to large to be women’s bikes but I could be wrong on that.

I like the BMC bikes a lot, however I prefer the all-black one.

If you can't elevate yourself, I guess kicking down is all you're left with.
Why does anyone care?
I got passed this weekend by a guy in a sweatshirt and toe clips. Does that mean I shouldn't have a nice jersey or Speedplays? Did I fail some unwritten performance requirement for decent equipment?
On the same ride, I paced with a very fit young woman with a triple on her carbon framed bike. Has she violated the No Triples for Good Riders Rule?

I would imagine that one could make a general conclusion that it's better for everyone that there are rich dilettantes buying this stuff. They help support the industry and, at least theoretically, amplify economy of scale and total number of different firms in the market.

This thread makes me sad
You think making fun of somebody that you don't know is better then someobdy spending money to get something he wants?

when i got my first road bike, i almost had them swap out for a triple. i just assumed it was better having more gear selections but it would have been some extra money. so i didn't do it.
that bike lasted me two years - from complete newbie (and i could have used a triple in the beginning) to having several races under my belt. i no longer need a triple for most things. so, my point is a lot of people start off with different abilities then they end up with. but bikes are expensive so you can't keep buying new equipment everytime you get a little better.

It appears to me there is a huge amount of jealousy and snobbery underlying this thread. And I'd be careful of whom I made fun. Some of those rich old fat guys may surprise you even with a triple.
