Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bill (William) Fox remembered....

I don't wear a sport jacket very often - usually only for special occasions. Tuesday was one of those days and I happend upon a memorial card in the breast pocket from the funeral of a work colleague and avid biker, Bill Fox. Bill was killed in a biking accident in June of 2002. We were both involved in the world of "FIB" - particle beam scientific stuff. I haven't thought about Bill in a while. I cannot even say that I really knew him very well, but he was a decent guy. The sight of the card brought both a smile (that I had had the opportunity to know him) and sadness.

I don't know if he ever participated on this board, although I know he was active on several on-line communities related to road biking and 'spinning'. And I apologize in advance if I hit a nerve or opened up old wounds for some. It is probably time to take the card out of my pocket and put it somewhere safe....
