Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need help with annoying noise

When I started off on yesterday's ride there was an annoying noise coming from somewhere on my bike. The timing matched my wheel revolutions (and the noise was still there when I stopped pedaling), so I got off the bike. When I rotated either wheel by hand, I didn't hear anything.

Any thoughts?

Just a thought. If you have a computer on board, it might be the magnets passing each other. Sometimes I can hear them distinctly, sometimes they are very faint and sometimes I can't hear them at all. I would think that you'd still hear the noise when turning by hand but being over the noise and next to the noise could have an effect. Good luck.

A little moisture in the bottom bracket can make a noise which is only there when pedaling (not turning by hand). A little grease clears it right up.

Thanks to all for your ideas. There wasn't anything on the tires. The magnets aren't hitting the sensors nor are they getting near each other. The noise is there whether I'm pedaling or not, but it's not there when I'm off the bike and turning the wheels by hand. So, I'm not sure why the bottom bracket would make any difference.
