Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

T-minus 18 hours till the new Mike Garcia wheels arrive!

Ok... so I'm getting a little anxious about getting our new sets of MG wheels in. We decided to get them sent overnight, to make sure they were here before heading down the the Hilly Hundred in Indiana this weekend. They should have been shipped yesterday and arrived today, but of course yesterday was a friggin' post office Holiday! (Slackers!) So, they didn't ship out until this morning... and should be sitting at my house by 10am tomorrow. I of course will leave work so I can be there... and take pics for all here to see. Rundown of what we ordered; Niobium 24 spoke front, 28 spoke rear for me. Nimble spider 24 spoke front and Velocity Aerohead 24 spoke rear. Robin ordered some orange Maxxis Detonator tires from the LBS, to go on her new wheels, and those should be in today. Anyhow, I know this thread is pointless... but I'm just getting anxious and am bored at work (what's new there!).

Well, my girlfriend wants to run some orage tires on her bike. She's obsessed with Rabobank team colors. She just put orange tape on her bars... and has orange Rabobank water bottles that came with her Team Kit that I got her about a month ago. So, she figures some orange tires would look pretty cool on her bike. We were going to get some Conti GP3000s for it, but they aren't making ANY orange tires this year. I know there are some around that are left over stock.... but we needed them before the ride this weekend. So, we just got some Maxxis Detonators that the LBS could order and have in the next day. (It's nice not having to pay shipping charges!). They are a decent looking tire... nothing spectacular, but they're cheap at only about $25 a piece. We went ahead and ordered some Attack/Force tires in Orange from Biketires direct, since they soem some in stock. But they won't be here until next week sometime.

Linky to the Detonators

Very cool! Please let me know how you like them because I'm in Tampa right now--right next to Gulfport where Mike is located, and I'm tempted to drive over to visit him and see whether he might consider putting together a set of 650c wheels for me--650 is not a stock item at any of the local bike shops, so if one went out, I wouldn't be able to ride...and the Bontrager's I currently have seem a little flimsy for some of the trails I ride...

I'd love to hear your feedback on your set!

WOOHOO.... they're sitting int he living room right now. I ran home from work just to make sure they got dropped off in once piece. Man... they are some sweet wheels. We stopped by the LBS and picked up the tires. I'll get some pics posted up later on tonight. They certianly make our old A-class 295s look the the POS that they are Robin's front wheel, a Nimble Spider, is just stupid light feeling! I think we're going to be very happy. Anyhow, pics to come!

I presume Mike is pretty busy lately. I sent him an e-mail asking about a tubular wheelset build on Tuesday but haven't heard back yet. How long does it take from the time you order to the time you receive the wheels?

He shouldn't even post an email address as it always takes like a week for them to get back to you. Call the phone number you will talk to Mike or Alex right away if you call during buisness hours and get all your questions answered.

If I remember correctly it took 2 weeks from time of order for my wheels.

Most likely! The Niobium's were $429 and the Nimble Spider/Velocity combo was $354. Just a fantastic value! I paid a little extra to get them sent overnight, but the standard prices include Fedex ground shipping.

Thanks! She somehow always manages to slip into the picture She's a chocolate lab... just about 2 years old. We've actually been thinking about getting her a German Shorthair for a friend once she gets about another year older.

Very nice. I have had a set of Niobiums for a few weeks now and I am liking them very much. What was the actual weight for the 2 wheelsets? I'm suprised nobody has pointed this out yet but you didn't align your tires with your valve stems!

You're gonna love Mike's wheels. I've had mine (SpeedCific / Velocity) for a couple of months and absolutely love them. I haven't had to touch anything since mounting them. Just did a century last weekend and had a couple of folks ask what they were. The best part is knowing they are lighter than Mavic Ksyriums and half the price....
