Raleigh bikes-2005 Competition
I've searched and can't find much information or many reviews on newer Raleigh bikes. I found a 2005 Competition, and it looks like a really sharp bike. It's got carbon top and down tubes, rear triangle and fork with aluminum lugs at the joints. It's full Ultegra with a Truvativ roular campact crank. Anyway, if anyone has any info or opinions on Raleigh's bikes or as a company, please fill me in. Thanks.

Also, I would ask for a discount on the 05 model

I've found one that I might be able to get for about the same price as a Trek 2100. Looking at the components on each, the Raleigh looks like a better deal. The frame on the Raleigh also looks better with the carbon tubes, but since you don't hear about Raleigh much anymore, I am interested in the durability side of things. Raleigh warrenties the frame for 5 years.

It's probably an asian made (China or Taiwan) frame like most others out there. Likely made in a factory that also churns out frames for many other bikes. I can't understand why a frame would be much better or much worse than another assuming that they're coming out of the same factory, and the same (or similar) materials are used (7000 Series Aluminum). You may also want to compare the geometry to similar looking frames, it may be a clone of some other frame out there.

The frame of the Raleigh is made in Taiwan. I thought the same thing about it probably coming out of the same factory as other major brands. It is the only frame I've seen with that design on comparable bikes though (carbon tubes, aluminum lugs).

Raleigh is not going to be the Raleigh of years gone by. However, most bikes are pretty generic these days, Shimano Derailleurs and Shifters, an asian made Aluminum frame, Alex, Shimano, Ritchey etc. wheelset and the list goes on. In fact unless you're buying something US built or Italian built, there isn't much to differentiate one bike from another except for frame geometry etc.

Hmmm ... I would also say that I doubt that the Raleigh would be any better or worse than a similar spec'ed bike from a non-major label such as Scattante or one of the BikesDirect variants.
