the goody two shoes thread
i've been shamed out of paying any more attention to the arrogant thread i started...so here's a thread about the funnier/more original topic that the other one turned into.
your thoughts on or experiences with the 'goody two shoes' cyclist?

Too bad you weren't shamed all the way out of creating new threads of any kind.

Well...since poseur wasn't in the title...I can respond. Sandy's post and all the other posts on the subject including this one are the same. There is every walk in most endeavors and cycling is no different. Poseurs and goody two shoe types are in effect the same...they are compensating for a personal deficit or inadequacy they feel about themselves....they are in effect the religious right of cycling...lol. No big deal really...many don't feel that great about themselves and are looking for a way to set themselves apart. If you are at peace and accept yourself...doesn't sound like Sandy is for example, you embrace all people...those in clown suits on fancy bikes that can't ride...rich fat guy poseurs on CF and Ti bikes who were the brunt of Euro's unfounded angst...and everybody else. Honestly poseurs, goody two shoe types and old guys riding Huffies don't bother me one bit...just part of the sport. I prefer the 85 year old guy on a Huffy personally like my neighbor whom I love but just personal preference. My best friend rides an old gas pipe Schwinn Continental bike he got when he was 11 years old and is 40 now....the bike is still in great shape and he rides in tennis shoes for mile after mile at 20 mph while we have great conversation and wouldn't be caught dead in a full kit uniform. His bike really ellicits a lot of comments...some probably a bit back handed. Gee...what a cool old bike Thing is...he is a strong rider and can keep up with cyclists on much faster bikes....as much as they sometimes try to drop him (us) when they see us riding together. Pretty funny really. I will be finding him a faster bike this winter and he probably will be able to drop me then...lol.

I'm not sure I know what a goody-two-shoes cyclist is. Maybe I'm one!

What is a poser? Everyone here seems to think its a fat guy in team colors with a $6000 bike. I say its the guy who is in good shape but not good enough to be accepted by the elite riders, he can't afford a top level rig, and all of his trips thus derived are therefore expressed as criticism at easy targets (fat guys on expensive bikes). Most of the latter that I run into seem like pleasant and friendly people just out for a ride.
