Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Does any current military's soldiers use bicycles?

I remember seeing a picture somewhere of a modern soldier riding a military version of an off-road bike. I'm not sure if it was an off-road bike or not so I posted this here.
So, has anyone seen this bike? Or know what I'm even talking about? o_O

I thought I read somewhere that Switzerland was the last one, but they dismantled their "Bicycle Corps" in 2003. I could very well be wrong, though.

It wasn't that long ago I read about Switzerland getting new bikes. Now of course political winds do change and tehy could have retired them the next year.

But for anyone wanting to try to look things up online I would suggest looking at Switzerland.

Yes, some special forces use camo painted MTB's on ocassion when in deep country with nothing but trails and no roads. Similar situation for winter. They readily use Telemark skis and snow shoes when in deep country with heavy snow.

Its ok.

I think I confirmed that what I was looking for was for off-road use and not a road bike. You can end the thread here because I guess this is about mtbiking stuff. But here is the link anyway.

kris is correct. The regiment in question so far as I know still exist offically in the books as the bicycle regiment. However they are now armor/mechanized infantry.
