Seeking advice on pedals
I'm thinking of changing the pedals on my roadbike (because my husband is getting a new bike and could use my old pedals, Shimano double-sided clipless). I'm considering Speedplay X/5, Crank Bros. Quattro, and a titanium Nashbar Look-knockoff. Any advice? My choices so far are guided in part by promos promising easy exit/entry, float, and (in the case of Speedplay) visual appeal (altho I hate to admit this last factor, lol .
What I'm really looking for is great function, i.e., ease of exit and yet good solid connection for the hard push. Any advice? Btw, I'm riding a Litespeed Bella.

I have been riding speedplay x-series for a while now. I really like them. They are durable, super-easy to enter/exit and will not give you any kind of alignment issues. They take a little while to get use to because of the free-float, but I think its worth it. As an added benefit, its easy to get proper cleat alignment as well. Check them out!

Riding a litespeed, it's really de rigueur to get the titanium spindled speedplays.

What does the free-float feel like? Does it feel less connected? Loose, sloppy? Or does it feel like you're sort-of-connected for longer before you actually come out of them?
As for the Speedplay Ti's, I wish I had that much $$ left, after splurging on the bike . . . I mean, except for the tiny difference in weight, it's hard to see how they'd make any difference.

I bought the cheap cro-mo Speedplays when I got my new Felt F2C about 3 weeks ago. They felt weird (loose) for couple rides, but after I got used to them, they feel great. I chose the cheaper cro-mo over the Titanium because the weight difference was only 28g per pedal (on the lbs scale), and I didn't think that was worth an extra $90. They are very easy to get in and out of, and I haven't yet poped out of them when I didn't want to.

The Quattro four-sided entry is great. With the Quattro platform, getting in is pretty damn easy, and even if you miss, you have enough platform to push on to clear the intersection. No spring tension to mess with, and with my troubled knees, I loved being able to rotate my heels inward to release.

Just upgraded from some Shimano SPD pedals and MTB shoes to a set of Speedplay Zero's and Specialized Road Comps. I will get my first ride in on them tonight but I think they are going to be good judging by what I can tell in the house.
