I don't know why I started looking at the weather reports again. All summer long I ignored them, and I was a happy man. It's easy to ignore the weather reports in the summer because rain is easy to tolerate without a jacket in the summer. Heck, most of the time in the summer rain is welcome and refreshing.
Anyway, earlier this morning I woke up and looked at weather.com- 60% chance of rain, especially in the late afternoon. No big deal; it's not too awful cold out there yet and rain wouldn't be too miserable. I had planned on taking my camera to take some pictures of some fall foliage, but I left it home fearing the rain.
I went on out around noon, and sure enough it was cloudy outside. About 7 miles into the ride I got a flat (a damn piece of glass...it was still lodged in my tire when I stopped), and right then I had a feeling it wasn't going to be my day. So what happened? I rode on and aroud 2 or 3 (when there was the best chance of rain, mind you) the sky cleared up and it was actually a beautiful day out there. The trees are slowly starting to change more and more. On Thursday I only saw one good photo opportunity out there, but today there were at least 5. I even saw a guy outside carving a huge pumpkin.
I rode home, enjoying a tailwind and vowing to ignore the stupid weather reports again.

I went out last Sunday with a 30% chance of rain. Started out under sunny skies and about mile 22 the clouds rolled in and it started pouring. Had to ride 8 more miles in pouring rain and maybe 60 degree weather.

if it says 30 of 30% chance of rain, in the summer, it usually doesn't rain or it's very isolated. But there wre times i saw huge black clouds approaching, didn't ride, and it didn't rain. Or I'd see it cleared up, go for a ride, and it would rain. If i ride, it rains- if i don't risk it, it doesn't rain. WAAAAAAA! Sometimes it's just so unstable.

If you go to www.noaa.gov and put in your zip code (on the left side of the screen), it will take you to a page that represents your local weather (including radar and satellite photos). Farther down on that page, there will be a small group of different "products". Select Forecast Discussion. Some of the abbreviations are difficult but it gives you a pretty good idea what the forecasters are basing their forecasts on and what models they are giving more credence to.

Last night, the forecast called for a 0% chance of precipitation today in San Diego. So what's that wet thing falling from the sky? If it's not rain, then what is it? If rain isn't precipitation, then what is it? I'm glad my ride today was in the afternoon, by which time near-perfect weather conditions prevailed.

A "mandatory" evacuation of the Florida Keys was called for hurricaine Wilma--although I understand the tourists did leave, somewhere around only 20% of the residents did. Can hardly wait to listen to the news tomorrow and see the end results of this decision.

Has anyone noticed that weather.com seems to predict rain for about 50% of the United States at any given time?
I use www.wunderground.com instead. They seem to be far more accurate with their forecasts.

Yeah, Saturday's beautiful weather was nothing but a slap in the face for me.
I'm still waiting on my new bike to arrive at the shop...and I'm getting anxious knowing that the weather won't hold out much longer. So the bike didn't show up Friday, but I had found consolation in the forecast for Saturday. Since the weather folks were calling for lots of rain on Saturday, I knew I wouldn't be missing anything by not having my bike. And ironically, I found that comforting.
But instead, the sun was shining all day here in Dayton. Mother Nature was mocking me, and I was tortured all day by thinking "I could be riding now." I'll probably get my new ride today or tomorrow, and the weather is definitely crappy. I swear, I can't win.

The sun was shining here on Sunday as well and I got a long ride in. It got a little cloudy towards the end and I ran into a tiny bit of drizzle with only 6 miles to go, but I didn't even get wet. I was sure it was going to start pouring right then just to mock me.
The wind was another story. It was one of those days where it seemed like the wind was always working against me and helping me out. Every time I turned I was waiting for the wind to be behind me, but it just never happened.
