Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Got any candy? Crank bros that is

Anyone use egg beaters(or a version there of) on their road bike? How do you like them? I just ordered a set of the candy sl's because I use mtn shoes during the week when I ride to work and wanted some frreback from anyone who uses them.

I've got 2 sets, candy sl's on my fixed gear and mallets on my MTB, both of which I use for commuting with Sidi bullet shoes, so far I'm pretty satisfied with them. Definitely better than clunking around in my Look compatible cleats.

the candy's are better than the eggs. the extra platform eliminates hot spots on long rides. i recently got the Ti candy's and threw the egg sl on the track bike. also using Sidi dragon shoes.

I have Candys, used to have Mallets (the big-ass ones, on my 'cross bike). Love 'em. The eggbeater-style mechanism is super easy to get into and out of. You will not regret getting them.

Had EB's originally, switched to Quattros because of hotspots, and they mostly went away, but not completely.

Switched to SPD-SLs and haven't had any problems since.

I use Candys on the tandem(road) and eggbeaters on the MTB. They work great and I havn't found anything better yet. They do leave indentions in the bottom of shoes though and the cleats wear out pretty fast.

I have some eggbeaters on my Felt and love them. You never have to worry about which side is up, just stomp down over the pedal and youre in. The float feels extreme at first but starts to feel solid after a couple rides, and its better for your joints that way.

i dont get why everyone seems to cream their shorts over having eggbeaters, especially on road bikes. you want the biggest platform you can possibly have on the pedal which is why they came up with the quattros. as far as being able to get in and out of the pedals easier because you dont have to "worry about what side they are on," this is just silly. speedplay pedals are double sided, look and shimano are weighted to the back so they hang down in a position where all you would need to do is hook your toe and stomp, i cant say that i have ever spun my look pedals to a point where i was trying to clip in the wrong side. Eggbeaters are great for mountain bikes with their exceptional mud clearance but i cant justify using them on a road bike when there are so much better options out there for the same price.
