Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SPEEDPLAY's & SIDI's, are they compatible as a direct mount?

Hi All

I have a pair of SIDI Genius 4 Lorica® Road Shoes and I’m switching to the SPEEDPLAY X/2 pedals from the SHIMANO PD-R600’s that I’m using now. I have looked at the mounting pattern of the SPEEDPLAY’s and was wondering what adapters I need and if the SPEEDPLAY’s are a direct bolt on like the SHIMANO’s? I’m using the 3 bolt pattern on the SHIMANO’s and I don’t see my SIDI’s having a 4 bolt pattern as in the SPEEDPLAY’s. Is SPEEDPLAY X/2 setup compatible with the SIDI Genius 4 Lorica® Road Shoes I have and if not what modifications or adapters will I need to make the SPEEDPLAY’s work with my SIDI’s? I like to hear from those that are using this setup and how hard it is to get the SPEEDPLAY’s to work with the SIDI’s before I make my purchase.

Thanks

Is it just a simple adapter plate to add or is there more to it? I have heard from someone else that you have to pry and remove the bottom plate on the SIDI's also, I'm not understand what that is about. Does anyone have the details on that?

There is a standard adaptor plate with 2 screws for attaching to the Genius series. Wedges are included with the cleats to compensate for the curvature of the bottom of the shoe. Mine have worked flawlessly for 5 years. Plan to Locktite the 2 adaptor plate screws and use plenty of torque, they have a tendency to loosen allowing the cleats to slip. Geniuses with X series make a great combination.

I have speedplays with Sidi Geniuses, and I found the best way to mount them is to remove the plate type thing that comes mounted to the bottom of the shoe, then mound the 3-to-4 hole adapter directly to the recessed area. Reduces the foot-to-spindle distance a few mm.

If this doesn't make any sense, let me know, and I'll post pics.

Hi There

Yes, please do post some pictures of this setup. I have heard someone talking about using the SPEEDPLAY's this was seen a couple of times. I was just confused on the mounting configuration of this pedeals using a 4 bolt pattern on the SIDI's. I would like to see several photos if possible.

Thanks

Here ya go. Hopefully you can see where I removed the plate from the bottom of the Sidis and mounted the 4-hole adapter to the recessed area.

Thanks for the photos. Is removing the plate on the SIDI's just prying up on it? Is it a pretty simple thing where it just snaps out?

I think mine was screwed in. Can't remember for sure. It should be obvious though.
