Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which wireless computers work fine w/ HID lights? anyone try VDO?

I ride quite a bit at night and looking to get a new wireless computer for one of my bikes.. I use the L&M Arc HID light.. Which wireless computers work ok with HID lights..

I have tried 2 different cateyes and a Supergo brand and they all go blank once I turn my light on. I'm not one who is constantly looking at the computer, but would like to know some basic stats after a night ride.

The VDO MC 1.0+ looks like a great computer, does anyone using a hid light use this model?

You could get a HID light with a helmet mount. Puts the light far enough away from the computer to prevent interference and gives you light whereever you look.

I had a girlfriend once that loved chocolate. Unfortunately, every time she ate it she got ill. Had to be near a restroom if she was going to eat chocolate.

I could never figure out why an otherwise intelligent girl just didn't give up the chocolate.

I prefer using it on the bars.. Just checking to see if anyone had success with a wireless computer and hid light.. There has to be at least 1 with enough shielding..

I am using the Cygo-lite HID Nicad. I like it it puts a beam farther down the road than my sons L&M.

Unfortunatly enough shielding to stop the hid from screwing it up would also be enough to stop it receiving signals. What you need to look at is shieldign the lights caseing instead. Find some place that sells insulated wire mesh it can be aluminum or copper. Get some of it and wrap the outer caseing of your light with it right cover the entire light including the lens with it. You dont want it touching the lens if the light puts out any heat. Once its covered in the stuff try your comp and light if you did it right with the right material you wont have any more interfearnce. What your putting around your light is a faraday cage. They are made to stop signals from getting in or out

Cliff notes and notes
find a supplier of insulated wire mesh aluminum or coper copper works best.
Wrap your light in the material coverign all of it dont touch the lens with it if your light puts out some heat.

Note window screen and aluminum foil will not work it will only make the blanking effect even more likly
You cant shield a wireless computer enough to stop it as youd stop it from pickign up signals at all.

I use a topeak Panarama with a NiteRider Storm. I had problems at first then I mounted my computer as low and as close to line of sight to the xmtr and I mounted the light on my stem instead of my bars and had it over the handle bars. Works great now.
