Blackburn Fluid Trainer issues.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Blackburn Fluid Trainer issues.

My Trackstand fluid is ~10 months old. I have noticed recently that it feels smooth sometimes and similar to a slightly bumpy road at other times(hard to explain). It had maybe 30 hours on it from last year. I broke it out tonight and it was squeaking badly from the first pedal stroke. I tightened it up a bit and continued. It is not compressing the tire at all. The tire is filled to 100 psi. It would get easy/difficult, easy/difficult, like I was spinning then mashing even though my cadence didn't change nor did the gearing. I started smelling burnt rubber which leads me to believe that the wheel on the trainer would stop at some point. I loosened the flywheel about 1/100th of a turn thinking there was too much pressure on it. I had it on so lightly that the small turn actually took the tire off the flywheel.

I'm sure this sounds wierd in writing.......

Anyone else had an issue like this? Any suggestions other than call Blackburn, which I'll do tomorrow?

Additionally, the flywheel on the trainer is warm/hot to touch.

Sounds like maybe an issue with the spindle. We don't carry Blackburn, but what's the warranty on it? I'd take it back to the place you bought it with your proof of purchase and see about a new one or a repair. If you did the Performance thing, you'll have to have it shipped back, I guess.

The spindle is the piece that rotates when you ride the bike. It attaches to a piece inside the fluid container that moves, and the other side is the flywheel...if it's hot, it may be rubbing.

I've got a Cycleops Fluid2...the flywheel never gets hot but the fluid container does...

If it's only 10 months old, they most likely will replace it. That's what we would do for a customer with a Cycleops that failed. Their warranty is lifetime on everything aganst mfg defects or assembly.

Yeah, it's got a 5 year warranty. I called the LB and they are going to take a look at it today.
