Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If you buy the Specialized right under Carbon Comp Pro, like I have, you save about $40 but loose the ratcheting buckle. See my review: https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycling/149327-specialized-shoe-review.html

I got the specialized cheapies (red color $79) for my SPD bike and liked the last so much that I bought the $105 model with a ratchet strap for my road bike. LOVE them. Great for us neandrathals with wide feet. Wonderful feel.

I will need to lose 10LBS before I can start worrying about the $100 worth of weight savings the carbon models will give me.

I got mine from a LBS, but you can buy Specialized shoes right off their website. www.specialized.com

Scraped the carbon sole on my shoe just a tad, but overall, not too bad. Went ahead with my ride even with the broken cleat, it still clipped in, it was just hard to get it out b/c it has one side of the cleat missing. After my fall which was right at the beginning of my ride, I learned quite quickly to clip and unclip. I even practiced clipping and unclipping for a while before I went out on my first ride, but I guess nothing will prepare you entirely for a real ride until you get out and actually do it. Just one quetion, do you guys and gals look down when you clip in or after a while, do you just learn where the pedal is and what position it is going to be in when you go to clip in? I could clip in pretty quick but was just wondering if evenutally I would get the hang of clipping in w/o having to look down at my feet everytime. Thanks!

Once you get spoiled by carbon-sole shoes, you'll never want anything less. I just recently bought a pair (Supergo Revel) and immediately notice the difference between the carbon sole and my so called "stiff" nylon sole shoes. The problem now is that I don't want to use my older (though still in very good condition) shoes... As for clipping in, I find that I clip in faster on my SPD's if I look. On my Nashbar Z17 Ti pedals (Look cleats), I find that I clip in faster WITHOUT looking.
