Anyone in a San Francisco cycling club?
Hey Im a pretty new rider, but I want to get serious about riding and racing. Does anyone have any experiences as far as riding in clubs in San Francisco? I have a friend in the Olympic Club, but I don't think that's in my price range...Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

There are all sorts of bicycle clubs around the bay area but strangely enough I've never heard of one in San Francisco save the Olympic Club which doesn't really qualify in my books since they seem to only have a couple of top flight amateur racers.
I've seen references to the Twin Peaks Bicycle Club but have never seen anyone that claimed to be members except the old Una Mas' Bicycle Racing Team members.
There's something called the California Road Club but I don't know how to contact them and I don't know what sort of club it is. I think it's a small club mostly involved in racing.

For racing clubs in Northern California, you can get a listing at the NCNCA website:
https://www.ncnca.org/
Just go to the link for "Clubs" on the left side of the homepage.

It's not too bad once you get used to it. I live relatively close to McLaren Park and some of the streets leading up to it are very steep. Yes, even more steep than the course for the SF Grand Prix. Whenever I feel like doing a short, rigorous ride, I would power up to the top part of McLaren Park. I would usually be huffing and puffing by the time I get to the top. Some of the streets are so steep, that even though I can bike up to it, I'm afraid to ride down it (particularly on my road bike)!

Nice thing about a grid, there is always another road going your way.

i'm on the Velo Girls mailing list... i haven't made it out to SF in a couple of years, and I wasn't riding at the time. Now, i have a reason to go 'home' again!
